Oh the irony. For decades now, the line out of the non-religious community when it comes to explaining the Holocaust was "We just don't know". On the Orthodox side, we can point to possible sins, the tochacha, Eisav soneh es Yaakov, etc. Now the non-religious can figure out why the UO community was hit so hard - refusal to follow common sense Public Health directives, putting ritual ahead of intelligent thinking, relying on leaders insulated from the real world and necessary information, etc. And the UO? "We just don't know"
