  3. He admits he doesn't understand the underlying rationale for the practice (if indeed there is one), but then tries to spin a whole pilpul on nusach ashkenaz vs nusach sephard mixing and matching that makes little sense.

  4. Prof. Leiman has an interesting Shiur about this:

  5. That's presumably where this gentleman got his information about the seforim earlier than the Chemdas Yomim.

  6. The gentleman is talmid chochom's talmid chochom and likely knew the sources and seforim from his vast repertoire of knowledge he acquired over many years.

  7. Rabbi Leiman's shiur is very informative, entertaining, and reliable...

AS ALL Rabbi Leiman's stuff is!!

As Leiman's indicates in this shiur itself, all the information, including the Shem Tov Katon (with the exception of that fantastic story about R' Yisroel Baal Shem) is in the Nitei Gavriel Pereck 3.

  8. The Shem Tov Katon, and Sefer Zechirah sources are well known, and mentioned by everyone that discusses the subject (Google it!)....

The Shiur was building on that established information, regarding the definition of "Erev".....

  9. Which part didn't you understand?!

"ערב ובוקר" clearly means the night before the day, which would refer to Maariv....

He then goes on to DEFEND the Nusach Sefard, by explaining that they intend to say it first thing before the night....

    Seems straight forward....
