Mendel Epstein - Gittin by torture trial: An urgent request for as many people as possible to attend the trial

update reply to lawyer's comment below:Sunday March 8

Gut Voch Rav Eidensohn,

If you can kindly post a response to the lawyer who said that it is not recognizable as to which side we appear for. Kindly tell him that aside from the fact that our support would be evident, since we would be sitting on the side of the prosecution, I know for a fact that it does indeed make a difference.

Thanking you again,
Yossi

===========================

I received the following information and urgent request from R' Yossi Frankel who has been attending the trial in Trenton. As my many posts show - this trial is very important in attacking the corruption that exists dealing with Gittin. Not only is there lynch mob justice, but women have been duped into thinking they can simply pay big bucks for a Get. They fail to realize that the Get is invalid and that children from other marriages will be mamzerim or at least sofek mamzerim.  Halacha has been presented as the independent domain of certain rabbis and for the right amount of money - Torah can be twisted into any shape desired. Please show by your presence that you want uncorrupted Torah and rabbis.

 Dear Rabbi Eidensohn,
I have been trying to get people to show up by the Epstein trials in Trenton. I ask you to post a request on your blog urging people to muster up every effort to show up. It is important for people to show up in show of support. In particular to impress upon the jury the urgency of the situation. Epstein's supporters have beefed up their show of support. We heard from law enforcement people and lawyers that a large community presence supporting the victims shows the jury that this the Jewish community is very concerned about stopping this lynch mob justice.

Epstein's supporters are well aware of the importance of supporters attending and they are making an effort to swing the case in their favor. In fact there were more people who showed up in support for Epstein than those who showed up for the victims. They had 14 people here. We had 4. Therefore we urge all those who can attend even minimally, to do so.

This case is important for another reason. If the court makes a deal with Epstein to turn in others involved in this scheme then the corruption in the area of gittin and dinai Torah will be significantly reduced.

update ==========just received the following letter from a lawyer=============
 Rabbi Eidensohn,
The main issue I have with the post is that it ignores a seemingly obvious point – there is no way for the jury to know who you support when you attend a trial as a spectator.  Members of the public are not allowed to speak at all during the trial, and certainly not in the presence of the jury.  This isn’t like a baseball game where you can vocally cheer for your team or wear your teams’ colors.  I am sure if someone from the general public was “declaring” their position in the court, for example by bringing a sign, they would be quickly thrown out and perhaps cited for contempt.  Indeed, if frum people were to show up in larger numbers it is far more likely that the jury would assume they are supporters of Epstein because they look and are dressed exactly like Epstein.

My second issue is that the facts are simply not true.  There is no massive showing of support for Epstein.  Other than opening statements, the courtroom has not been packed at all.  Epstein does have some family that regularly attends, but that is not at all unusual.  Additionally, the impact of the audience is very overstated.  The prosecution has been working on their case for quite some time, and in my opinion their case is going very well.

  1. How does how many people show up affect the trial?

How does the jury or court know which people are showing up in support of the victims and which people are showing up in support of the perpetrators?

So far, who has been showing up in court in support of Epstein's victims?

How will showing up affect a plea deal - and who would a plea deal be beneficial to?

  3. It seems to me that we fall to the level of the defendants if we seek to corrupt the justice system to suit our desires. That being said, a large contingent of the Marconi family from Argentina would like to attend. However, since they don't exist, there's no need to compensate their travel expenses. With the substantial amount of money saved (plane tickets are not cheap!), maybe you could bribe the judge?

  4. Since the macaroni's don't exist, neither does Epstein's baloney. In order to balance out the observers that do exist, no need to bribe the judge. The open court system, is just doing that, for us to see the justice in the making. The more the spotlight that exists, the more weight and consideration for the Jurors to work harder fetching the truth! Just come in hords, the more the merrier.

  6. Do you think this is NYS supreme (matrimonial) court (where there have been several cases of bribed judges; no one is interested in prosecuting, or debarment or similar)?

Federal court is different. (In fact, if we can somehow transfer our matrimonial cases to federal court, it would be much fairer. Undortunately, matrimony is strictly a state issue, and federal judges are not stupid to get involved in such petty matters.)

These judges are not bribable. (There was one case a few years ago of a federal judge from down south who was caught. It went to congress, who impeached him, but declined to throw him off the bench. He is now a respected member of the congressional black caucus. Even sticks his nose into anti israel issues.)

In short, federal judges may be messed up like other judges, but not bribable.

  7. Today with internet and PACER and Blogs we follow very well and show our support. I downloaded Stahl's 3/3/2015 letter to Judge Freda Wolfson. Wow:

    let me quote a paragraph:

"U.C. has a strong bias against his ex-wife. He has great incentive and motive to lie in this trial to seek to undo the get that she used to re-marry and have new children. He can use his fabrication in this court to reassert the same power over her that he lost when the get was delivered to her. He also can use this testimony as a threat to regain his financial leverage over her, by seeking to invalidate the get as coerced under the law of the United States. As stated above, since U.C.'s ex-wife is now remarried, providing that the get was not valid (kosher) could lead to all sorts of terrible legal, social and moral consequences for her and the children she has with her new husband."

  8. Adultery is a grave and serious sin. The Torah states that the penalty
in court (after warning and with proof of premeditation) is death.

    I quote:

If a man is found lying with
another man’s wife, both of them—the man and the woman with whom he lay—shall
die. Thus you will sweep away evil from Israel (Deuteronomy 22:22).

    Also:

If a man commits adultery with
a married woman, committing adultery with another man’s wife, the adulterer and
the adulteress shall be put to death (Leviticus 20:10).

I notice on Agunah International website
the women complain bitterly of their husbands’ unfaithfulness. This is not a proper matter to complain to
Agunah International to start their lynch party. Agunah International is like the passerby who
sees a wife enraged at her husband and takes the wife’s side and makes the
fighting worse. I apply A passerby who
gets embroiled in someone else’s quarrel Is like one who seizes a dog by its
    ears(Proverbs 26:17).

  9. Who is U.C. and what was the story with his Get? Was it coerced?

    And who is Stahl?

  10. Stahl is one of the liars (oops, lawyers) in this case. UC must be the former Mrs C.

  11. I’m writing in response to:

“Not only is there lynch mob
justice, but women have been duped into thinking they can simply pay big bucks
for a Get. They fail to realize that the Get is invalid and that children from
other marriages will be mamzerim or at least sofek mamzerim.”

Agunah International states: “Our Mission: To free women trapped in dead marriages by
recalcitrant husbands who refuse to grant a Get.”

    The marriages are “dead” because
the women are enraged of their husbands’ unfaithfulness.

Marriages are “dead” only with a kosher get or with death as
    stated:

    Talmud - Mas. Kiddushin 2a

    C H A P T E R I

    Mishnah. A woman is
acquired [in marriage] in three ways and acquires her freedom in two. She is
acquired by money, by deed, or by intercourse. by money: Beth Shammai maintain,
a denar or the worth of a denar; beth hillel rule, a perutah or the worth of a
perutah. and how much is a perutah? An eighth of an italian issar. And she
acquires her freedom by divorce or by her husband's death. a yebamah is
acquired by intercourse, and acquires her freedom by halizah or by the yabam's
    death.

take all those who have the spare time to travel to Trenton for trial

what is their marital status today?

what is their marital status 3 years from today?

what is their marital status 10 years from today?

Compare their divorce rate to equivalent peer demographic divorce rate

  14. The Torah authorized Courts, under
strict circumstances, to administer corporal punishment:

When there is a dispute between
men and they go to law, and a decision is rendered declaring the one in the
right and the other in the wrong—if the guilty one is to be flogged, the
magistrate shall have him lie down and be given lashes in his presence, by
count, as his guilt warrants. He may be given up to forty lashes, but not more,
lest being flogged further, to excess, your brother be degraded before your
eyes. (Deuteronomy 25:1-3). Rashi says from here is the warning against
    blows to a companion.

    Teiltelbaum testifies that one of
Epstein’s gang punched him in the face. Outside of the strict circumstances for
a court, striking people and certainly torturing them are clear violations of
the Torah. The negative command: “but not more” means a
prohibition of anyone striking his fellow.

  15. The Torah authorized Courts

The key word being a valid court. A kangaroo court comprised of thugs-for-hire is not a court, under any circumstances. They would be getting beaten by beth din for beating other people.

    ReplyDelete
  16. That would be highly irrelevant and a waste of time. Take statistics after this
trial is over, how many more crooked rabonim will be megaleh ponim batorah shelo
kehalocha, kangaroo botei dinim will prevail, karate chopper dayonim be happy go lucky, how many rabbinate
organizations will consist with peeper rabonim, gitei meussa's, kisvei siruv for
phantom husbands, mamzerim factories, how many more umglikliche yesomim ripped
away from the fathers arms, and last but not least, how many more such sadisitic
beatings will we spare from yiddishe husbands? You will find that no more such
beatings will EVER occur in the US of A. NO more trigger happy vagabond miscreant Goon
Squads will breathe freely roaming the streets, hooded or un hooded. This guy
will be released only in a body bag.

  17. just to be clear , I meant anyone who takes time out of their "busy" day, to appear in Trenton.

    To support either side.

Statistically and actuarially, they are most likely to get divorced. So , don't go. For either side.

Unless you are in Kollel, of course

  18. Right, beating other people makes Epstein et al thugs-for-hire and they should be given lashes---a maximum of 39, for fear of violating "but not more" by a miscount.

  20. and they should be given lashes---a maximum of 39

They would receive those lashes hundreds of times. One set for each of their many, many, many violations. That's besides for the many, many other punishments that they would receive. People who go around beating people up and pretending to be a "bet-din" would be incarcerated as well, as they are an extreme danger to society. This is from the isolated cases where the halacha would actually incarcerate people.
