This is an update on my posting 2 weeks ago - Satanic child abuse: Is there a ring in Sanhedria Murchevet? - about Rav Berkowitz' speech to the Sanhedria Murchevet neighborhood about the possibility of a Satanic or sadistic or missionary abuse ring. As I have repeated noted that despite repeated allegations of such child abuse rings there is no evidence - in America or Israel or anywhere else - that these abuse rings are more than a product of fearful imagination.
My original post has received over 4200 hits. My posting on Scribd of Rav Berkowitz' speech has received over 20,000 views. Apparently by people who don't want to look at blogs and have received the link to my Scribd posting by email. Anyway you look at it the numbers indicate that people are seriously concerned about the issue.
Recently I was told that my postings against the hysteria produced by the conspiracy theorists - are being rejected because of claims that I have been paid $150,000 to support the Satanist in their conspiracy against frum Jews! After all - anybody who disagrees with Rav Berkowitz obviously is either crazy, an apikorus or a Satanist himself or was paid off - right?
Furthermore I have been told that there are therapists (most who are not trained in the field of child abuse) who have been giving therapy to the children of parents who suspect abuse. They have told the parents that the children have definitely been abused by a child abuse ring.

Equally troubling is that these therapists are telling these parents that the children can only be safe if the family moves back to America or that the children are taken out of chareidi schools and put into Mizrachi schools!
Finally I have told of many rabbis who have studied the evidence and firmly reject the conspiracy theory and the idea that there is an abuse ring operating in Jerusalem. However they have not put this in writing and are only telling people who ask for their views. The claim is that public letters will not change those who already believe in the existence of abuse rings.

This is so true. The only thing that will change the belief of those that believe in the existence of abuse rings or that many of their neighbors are cruel pedophiles is when they or their close relatives and friends will also be accused of being part of this ring!~
a relative living in the area told me that parents now won't allow small children out of their sight. before this whole thing started no one worried about kids playing in the park alone, in the parking lot alone. those days are gone.
ReplyDeleteIF this is untrue, why are tens of kids, from diff schools, diff neighborhood, telling the same story and acting the same way?
ReplyDeleteThere are many possiblites - other than saying this conspiracy theory is true.
ReplyDeletePlease read up on the history of these conspiracy theories, the issue of recovered memories , the history of improper questioning by parents, police, therapists etc.
If this is true - please provide the names of the experts who agree that there is a conspiracy. So far it seems that the "therapist" involved are not experts in child abuse and don't even have training in the field and in fact their expertise is fields such as substance abuse or speech therapy or rabbinic literature.
There is no reason for the Rabbonim to put their rejection into writing. If the conspiracy theorists believe you were paid off $150K, how much would they claim the Rov who issues the psak was bribed.
ReplyDeletePeople who arent trained properly will ask leading questions, and kids will start answering what they believe the parent or professional want to hear vs. the truth.
ReplyDeleteThat is why there are legal guidelines for how this needs to be dealt with, and Rov Berkowitz from the start (from the hiring the private eye before the "cult revelation") has NOT been doing this by the book.
Sorry, but when you hack into someones computer and "gather evidence" for the police, don't act shocked when they throw it out of court
the word out is that Dr. Danny Brum, a world renowed trauma expert, says that what rabbi berkovits said is true! dr. brum resides in j-m
ReplyDelete@issac - the word is out that your report is false. It is also falsely claimed that Rav Sternbuch is supporting certain therapists that believe in the conspiracy - It is also falsely claimed that I am supporting the Satanists.
ReplyDeletePlease provoide documentation for your claim - otherwise it is about as valuable a contribution as previously chewed bubble gum.
They don't have to be bribed. There are plenty of respected Rabbis that are related to people that are making the accusations or are easily influenced by these people. It seems real. They (the parents) think it is real. They are being honest when they make these claims. It is hard not to get sucked into the hysteria.
ReplyDeleteWhen parents hear that their child was there also, they will also question their child until the child admits he/she was there also. There will be a few parents that will ask their children and when they first get a no answer will not press them until they get a yes answer. That is the exception.
speaking of chewed gum, what are the names of the rabbis that YOU cite above? documentation?
ReplyDeleteas far as dr. brum-be responsible and SPEAK TO HIM YOURSELF. he's minutes away from har nof!
@Issac - I just spoke with a widely respected psychologist today who told me that your claims about Dr. Brum are not true.
ReplyDeleteRav Berkowitz is the one making claims about a conspiracy- it is his job to prove this point.
Regarding rabbis - there is a growing list of rabbis who clearly disagree with Rav Berkowitz - the question is whether they will say so publicly. I don't have to prove to myself that I have talked with authorities - rabbinical and psychological who say that Rav Berkowitz is wrong.
Rabbi Eidensohn, would your opinion change if Dr. Danny Brom were to become involved and state that widespread abuse happened?
