Channel 10's report: Chareidim working on sly

YNet Tens of thousands of haredim are focused on studying the Torah in order to defend Israel, which is why they are exempt from military service under the Tal Law – but what is actually happening on the haredi street?

Israel's Channel 10 filmed an investigative report that shows how the military service deferral is exploited for profit at the State's expense.

When one yeshiva student candidate was asked if he had a problem with pay slips he responded that he did, because of the army. He then says that he was previously employed under the table. When asked how he was paid he explained that the pay slip went to someone else and eventually he received cash.

If it became known to the authorities that the student worked, he would not only have to pay income tax, but would also lose out on benefits worth thousands of shekels.

  2. What is the halacha on this issue? Isn't it halachically required to follow the law of the land? Is there an exception when law or rule breaking is done to evade the religiously objectionable draft?

  3. Yeshaya. Anyone can find objectivity in just about anything in the world. Bottom line. Is going to the israeli army an issur? Most certainly not. Do the charedim go? Most do not. Same applies to eating cholov stam. Its simply a chumra not to go.

    1. Israeli Army is assur due to the rampant pritzus, among many other halachic issues.

Cholov Stam is not a chumra. According to many shittos, Cholov Stam has the same status as Cholov Akum, and CS is plain ouhtright treif.

  4. Eating chazir is outright assur according to all. There is no machlokos or other shitas who are maykil. That being said, as long as some thing is not done because of a diference in opinion does not not make it outright assur. If u wanna talk tznius then u should not walk into any dept store. You should not be allowed to walk the streets in geula. So whatts worse being in the army or shopping at walmart?

  5. Israeli Army pritzus and giluy aroyos is clearly much much worse than Walmart.

If your posek holds cholov stam is akum and therefore assur, it has the same status as chazir for you.

If you watch the segment which is already on YouTube you will see that 9 out of 10 ask to be paid under the book and one is completely lost.

    The segment is hilarious BTW
