Many tzadikim were put into prison by the goyim, including Rabbeinu Gershom, the Baal HaTanya, etc. etc. etc. What goes around, comes around. Nothing new under the sun.
To Sam: Your comment is insulting to Rabbeinu Gershom and the Baal HaTanya. They were not sent to jail for defrauding the Internal Revenue Service. The Spinka Rebbe got off cheap because of his garb - a person off the street would have gotten much more than two years. This is called Chillul HaShem, nothing less. And the Spinka Rebbe perpetrated it. Wake up.
Lets not compare his imprisonment with Rabbeinu Gershom and the baal Hatanya. They didn't get imprisoned in a fair court of law. He did.
The charges against Rabbeinu Gershom and the Baal HaTanya were ostensibly far "worse" than anything in this case. This is golus, and this is what we are used to.
Sam,what a cholom!the judge said he got 2 years because he didn't personally benifit from the whole thing.
Well stated, Sam.
