Chalban: Kabbalist gives advice to Netanyahu

Haredim

  1. Good thing the Dati Leumi has their own mekubal who is as dati leumi has a job as chalban (milkman), This is contrary to the litvish charedi ala rav chach teaching that if you need to get a job, it is punishment and you already lost the divine grace.

  2. Does anyone know more details about the "Chalban"?

  4. Well two things from the Vos Iz Neaias article that are not true. First "So I began to tell people -- let's get the rest of us together, and heaven arranged that Rav David Batzri (who had known my father) founded Rav Sharabi's Nahar Sholom yeshiva for kabbalah."
Nahar Shalom was founded in 1939. R' David Batzri isn't yet sixty let alone well over 80. After the passing of R' Sharabi, the Yeshiva passed to his student R' Shalom Shmueli, who passed it to his son R' Beniyahu Shmueli, who was Chavruta with R' Batzri for a period of time under the tutelage of R' Sharabi and later under R' Kaduri.

Today, the Chalban teaches in the Hasholem Kolel in Givatayim, which is parallel to the Yeshivas Hasholom of Rav David Batzri in Yerushalayim. R' Batzri's Yeshiva is in the Mekor Baruch neighborhood not in Givatayim.

It seems that he wants to make it seem that he has a strong Kesher with R' Batzri. Whether that is the case or not I cannot say. I know that he has no respect amongst the Nahar Shalom or Beit E-l mekubalim, for reasons that I do not want to go into, on account of Lashon HaRa.

The Kabbalah teaches, and the in our generation the Rabbanim of the Mekubalim have been very madayik about this, that one cannot enter into the PaRDeS without beard and payot of the proper Kabbalistic length as laid down by the AR"I. The Baba Sali has been cited many times as saying that anyone who cuts his beard off even with an electric shaver has no fear of heaven and is Pagum Brit.

  5. Monsey "Tzaddik" -- I have personally met with HaTzaddik Hamekubal Rav Chaim HaKohen, Shlit"a, aka HaChalban -- and I guarantee you that if you met the Tzaddik you would regret ever insulting him. Mamash nissin v'niflaos come out of his office several times a day.

We do not judge a person by Nissim, we judge a person by their adherence to halakha.

HaNotzri and Bilaam both performed Nissim, but we do not call them Tzadikim.

  7. Having thought about this and spoken with a Rav. I will say this. Anyone who wants to know the truth of this, and whether this individual is valid, need only read R' Yaakov Hillel's book Faith and Folly(in english) or Tamim Tihyeh in Hebrew. Personally I would recomend the Hebrew as it contains all of the haskamot which are worth reading as many of the Gedolim there(such as R' Kaduri) add their own clarifications. The book is short and concise and its purpose was to stem the tide of charlatans within Judaism that call themselves Kabbalists.

I would also suggest reading Divrei Yitzchak, especially the essays at the end which bring down R' Kaduri's teachings on such matters.

The Vos iz neas article should also be an eye opener for anyone familiar with mekubalim, their Gedolim and their Yeshivot. Especially as the Chalban dropped a lot of names, attributed to some fictitious events, but did not drop the important names, such as Kaduri, Darzi, Ades, Attia, Hedayya.

  8. One last thing. Within most Kabbalistic Yeshivot there is no distinction made between Da'ati Leumi and Chareidi. That aside the Da'ati Leumi world has several major mekubalim, R' Eliyahu and R' Avichai to name but two that I know in Jerusalem

I have no connection with R' Batzri. However these are serious allegations to lay at the feet of a Talmid Chacham and Rosh Yeshiva. Please back them up with some sort of verifiable evidence.

  11. I personally heard from a person who had many tradgeys went to him for help, and heard the prices which he could not approach. my close freind ravYYK learned by him and told me of the PR agent, who donates his work. about the fasts , i saw-heard myself from the PR. I once spoke to rav E Peretz (dayan at rav HP SHINEBERG slita) who told this is not lashon harah. The dybuk case another time.

  13. I once spoke to rav E Peretz (dayan at rav HP SHINEBERG slita) who told this is not lashon harah.

The facts of a specific case perhaps or perhaps not. Though I have a very hard time understanding any Rav's reasoning as to why it would not be. All things considered I have to take issue with R' Peretz's ruling.

See there is a story about a person who was suffering great losses in business who came to the Baba Sali to seek his advice and Blessing. The Baba Sali demanded $50,000 before he would even see him. Everyone thought this was extremely odd behavior(considering this is a story written with permission of the Abuchatzeira family in a biography of the Rav I am sure this is putting it politely), but in truth the Baba Sali knew through Ruach HaKodesh that this person had embezzled money from his business partner, and the Baba Sali was using this as a tefisa to acquire the money for his business partner.

Or another case where a prominent Talmid Chakham had come to the Baba Sali for a blessing, upon seeing him the Baba Sali began screaming at him and cursing him. Some of the Baba Sali's family had thought that ChV'Sh he had taken leave of his senses. He explained that through Ruach HaKodesh he saw that this Talmid Chakham was surrounded by a host of evil spirits. The Baba Sali's behavior caused the person to do Teshuva, and it was found out that on the trip to see the Baba Sali that this Talmid Chakham was somehow overcome by his Ta'avah and had relations with a Zona, and was intending on seeing her again on his return trip.

I do not personally know that much about R' Batzri, and I have a hard time understanding why he chooses to do some of the things that he does. However, I do know this. He is the grandson of R' Yehuda Patiya, a man of such Ruach HaKodesh that even the Baba Sali and R' Kaduri trembled in his presence. He and R' Agasi(a Mekubal of equally great stature) between them merited to have revelation of Eliyahu HaNavi and many other hasagot by means of Ruach HaKodesh. This I have recieved from R' Shmueli, R' Kaduri, R' Haddaya and R' Hillel seperately. R' Patiya felt that this work need to remain mostly hidden, and upon his passing he entrusted it to only to two members of his family, R' Batzri's faither being one of them. Upon the passing for R' Batzri's father, R' Batzri was found worthy, both by the family and the other Mekubalim of the time to continue the guardianship in his father's place. Which itself speaks volumes for his character.

Most of the major mekubalim today hold R' Batzri in high esteem, so I am forced to question stories that are heard only on the secon or third hand concerning only a specific situation for which we do not have all the details.

  15. say what you have to say or don't mention itDecember 7, 2009 at 7:36 PM

"I know that he has no respect amongst the Nahar Shalom or Beit E-l mekubalim, for reasons that I do not want to go into, on account of Lashon HaRa."

This is something that irks me about the anti-lashon-hara-nikim:

"He has not respect amongst..." is already a derogatory statement about this person.

Now, the reasons for which there is no respect for him are not revealed to us. This makes it impossible for us to make up our own mind and decide if the lack of respect is justified or not.

In my view, it is more damaging to say "there is something, but I won't tell you what it is" than to say outright what there is to say.

  16. "Most of the major mekubalim today hold R' Batzri in high esteem"

But if I understand you all right, you yourself critised him on your blog for wearing two pairs of tefilin visibly and being photographed with it (there are various different photos available, so it has to be a kind of "habit"). Or did I misunderstand something?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Shoshi,

I did not, and never have criticized R' Batzri. You will find no text on my blog stating otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well I understood that the photo you displayed was one of R' Batzri. But it could be that his name is wrongly associated with the picture (and several others where the same person is seen wearing double tefilin)...

    ReplyDelete
  19. The only picture I can recall displaying with any form of criticism has a blurred out face. If you wish to make wild guesses as to whose face was blurred, that is your prerogative, however please do not insinuate that I have spread any kind of lashon hara about a specific person.

    ReplyDelete
  20. If you enter "David Batzri" in google images you will find a few (different) pictures of a person doning visible double tefilin.

Now I do not know if this is really him or if the pictures are all miscaptionned.

I do not know either whether I should trust you that this is against "halacha" or whether I should suppose that there are just different minhagim, some are makpid not to be seen, others not...

    ReplyDelete
  21. PS: and if you enter "David Bazri" you will find a picture that looks exactely like the blurred picture you displayed on your blog, except that it is not blurred and shows the same person.

You see: blurring a picture is not always enough to ensure privacy, especially on the net.

If you consider the link between the picture/your article and the name lashon hara, then you should be more carefull.

Should not be too difficult, with an IQ "between 180 and 230"

    ReplyDelete
  22. sorry, it should read "IQ between 183 and 210"

  23. Shoshi

If you had bothered to actually read the blog post of mine(why you feel the need to discuss this on someone else's blog is beyond me), you would note that I did not criticize an individual, but rather a trend within the Kabbalistic world, that I find disturbing.

Sha'ar HaKavanot 7C&D. Sefer Ben Ish Hai Year One Parasha VaYera 15-21. Sefar Halicot Olam(R' Ovadiah Yosef according to the Order of the Ben Ish Hai) Same place.
It is a specific halacha as laid out in the sources listed above. In truth this has nothing to do with you believing me or not, as I posted these same sources on my own blog post(which has since been removed). This has everything to do with you trying to cause me damage by insinuating that I am insulting a well respected Rosh Yeshiva. A goal at which you have been quite successful.

I did not expect someone to hold me in such malice as to feel the need to scour the net for a picture that looked similar with a name attached, and then begin posting on the blogs of other individuals that I had insulted said individual, when the entire content of my post had nothing to do with that individual. The picture was simply illustrative of a small problem that was illustrative of a larger problem.

I did not underestimate the abilities of the net. I simply underestimated your own maliciousness.

  25. 1. Concerning:
    (a) Rabbis who are clearly not Kohanim and
    (b) Rabbis who are not true Cohanim, but who claim to be (this includes many of the ‘rabbanim’, ‘dayanim’ and ‘mekubalim/kabbalists’ of today) and
    (c) The ‘layman’ who is not a true Cohen, but who claims to be:

    Take note:-
There are numerous people who fall into the above 3 categories. These people are regularly pronouncing the, “Birchat Kohanim”, or giving ‘brachot/blessings’ to the Jewish People.

They have no right whatsoever, to do this.

And they are actually “taking over” the role of the Cohen - for themselves.

    • This should be corrected speedily, so that the role of the Kohen to give brachot, is returned to him, and is no longer usurped by others.

    • Rabbis and rabbonim should have the humility to direct a person in need to a true Cohen.

    2. Those who need a brocha would be well advised to find someone who is known to be a true Cohen.

Those seeking a berocho should be made aware, that the full Beracha from Hashem can only pass from Hashem, to His true Kohanim, and then to the Jewish People.
