Could this possibly, just possibly have anything to do with his campaign to land the Rav of Yerushalayim job, thinking he could pick up some more support?
He's marrying off a daughter, and he is descended from a bloodline of many Chasssidishe Rebbe's, so why not consider this an opportune time to pray at kever avos?
He went to invite his relatives. This is hardly uncommon. Is this Rav Efrati's youngest daughter? Either way, who cares, it's a minhag beyisrael to do so.
Rav Efrati is a good Jew and a truly great man. Why is it that if he is truly Rav Eliashiv's one and only "talmid muvhak" that more is not heard from him? instead of always getting the strident voices of people like R Nochum Eisenstein with his constant conversions machlokesen and loud-mouth disputes who always claims to be "speaking for Rav Eliashiv" when everyone knows he is not, while if Rav Efrati would speak for Rav Eliashiv everyone would know the truth of Rav Eliashiv's words and probably accept them in the spirit of divrei chachomim benachas nishma'im ("the words of the wise/sages are heard by their gentleness").
There is no surprise to this photo. Rav Eliashiv himself is a great mekubal in the derech of the Yerushalmi mekubalim who follow the GRA's kabbala, as is well known, and Rav Efrati follows in that line as well.
Rav Nachman of Breslov is the closest relative to the Baal Shem Tov, he's his grandson, being the son of the Baal Shem Tov's daughter Udel. Happens to be that the GRA put the FOLLOWERS of Rav Nachman and of the Baal HaTanya into permanant cherem, but it seems that Rav Efrati is trying to make shalom and prepare the way for the mashiach. Just a hunch.
So we really are all eating the same potatoes. Heh.

ReplyDeleteWhy not be more charitable?

I am very saddened by how Rabbi Elyashiv -- and the halachic process -- has been hijacked by the personal agendas of his handlers.
ReplyDeletePerhaps that's why I have trouble not being cynical about this.
