After US President Donald Trump on Wednesday calls him “weak and pathetic” in his handling of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s pardon request, President Isaac Herzog says that Israel’s “dignity, independence and sovereignty” are not for sale.
Netanyahu was asked about the insults during a press conference last night, and said that “US presidents are entitled to say what’s in their hearts,” while blasting the trial as a political witch hunt.
The prime minister should have pushed back on Trump, Herzog indicates.
The attacks on Herzog are unfair but he's not on the side of angels either. The legal war on Bibi has long been exposed to be a sham, meant to label him as a criminal in the eyes of the Israeli public even as the actual trial continues to fail and even the judges don't see the point of it anymore. It wouldn't hurt him to step in and say "Enough! You've had all the time and resources. You've proven nothing. End it already!"

ReplyDeleteDefer the trials till the wars are over.
Drop charges on most of the cases, leaving a symbolic case to be resolved at a later date.
