5 takeaways from the House passing Trump’s big bill

House Republicans passed early Thursday a major package to advance President Trump’s tax priorities, significant spending cuts to Medicaid and food stamps, and a host of other partisan add-ons.

The 1,000-plus page bill, which Republican leaders changed overnight to appease GOP moderates and hard-line conservatives, lays out trillions of dollars in proposed tax cuts and well north of $1 trillion in spending cuts over the next decade.

  1. When it comes to healthcare, some people shout "Just increase spending!" to address the problems in supply and delivery.
For decades, the US has done this. Funding has gone up. And yet the same people are happy to point out that health indices and life expectancy have dropped, especially on Trump's watch.
So clearly this excessive amount of money isn't accomplishing its goals. So why not cut it?

  2. Is there any gross cut? No. It's trillions in additional spending. It's just spending on other priorities.
