ReplyDeleteThe bottom line: American Jews see themselves as Jewish Americans - American liberals first and only. They might like Israel or see it as a nice place to visit but they don't feel a visceral national connection to the Jewish nation. Given the choice between a liberal who hates Israel and a conservative who loves it, they'll still vote liberal because their liberalism, not their Jewishness, is their primary value.
