Sunday marks 30 days since the disaster at Mount Meron in which 45 people were killed and 102 wounded as thousands tried to squeeze through a narrow staircase at the annual Lag B’Omer festival.
It was the worst civilian disaster in Israel’s history. Yet 30 days on, as the traditional shloshim mourning period draws to a close, all attempts to establish a formal state investigation into what went wrong have failed.
Perhaps most shocking of all: Though the dead are almost all Haredi, it is the Haredi political parties who have resisted most fiercely a formal probe.
Nothing that seculars or their legal system do(es) can be good.

So bottom line: The Gedolim and their handlers are killing you and still "We follow Daas Torah!" "Our Gedolim are infallible!" Yeah, hard to have sympathy.
ReplyDeleteJustifiable mistrust in the government exists.
ReplyDeleteLook at the crazy decisions the courts make.
Look at the crazy arrests the police make.
Things need to be fixed but judge favorably.
judge what favorably?
ReplyDeletewhat about the collapse of the illegal, shoddy stadium shul over yom tov, when 2 people were killed and many others injured?
ReplyDeleteIt is the same disregard for regulations , health and safey, and doing things by the secular book.
It seems that some folks would rather enhance the risk of more people dying than to cede some of their control over the site.
ReplyDeleteIt also seems that those responsible for what happened through their potentially criminal negligence, don't want a probe because it may expose their crimes and culpability.
