Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh accused the media of overhyping
the 2019 coronavirus that’s infected nearly 80,000 people worldwide,
calling it "the common cold" and claiming, without evidence, that it’s
"being weaponized" as an attack on President Donald Trump.
Well he is sort of right. Covid is a respiratory virus, like the common cold. The total number of infected is probably far higher than the official numbers but since they never got virus testing they couldn't be included in the statistics. The vast majority of diagnosed get symptoms of a really bad cold or moderate flu and then recover. But is it an attack on Donald Trump? Well it is an election year. The Chinese economy was starting to flounder due to the American trade wars. The American economy was, at the same time, bounding. Yes, it's far-fetched but imagine the Chinese decided to use biological warfare (and you can't say they wouldn't try) to create a situation that sabotages the world economy and pushes the US into recession just before the election. Trump loses, comrade Bernie comes in and China gets its boots licked again. Far-fetched but it would make a great movie.
