IT MAY SEEM SUPPORTIVE TO BETH SCHLESINGER THAT A NUMBER OF CHABAD SHLUCHIM ARE SUPPORTING HER BUT... IT IS OF NO VALUE... EACH CHABAD CENTER OPERATES AS A N AUTONOMOUS UNIT... IT IS APPARENT THAT, WHEN IT COMES TO CHABAD... 'LES DIN V'LES DAYYAN' AS LONG AS THE SHALIZCH IN VIENNA SUPPORTS THE HUSBAND
You correctly pointed out that there is a growing number of Chabad shluchim who are expressing their concern about the way this case has been handled by the Austrian Jewish community. Most notably by the head of Chabad in the UK http://www.chabad.org.uk/templates/articlecco_cdo/aid/2864904/jewish/Benjamin-and-Samuel-Schlesinger.htm . This is an implicit acknowledgement that many in Chabad are concerned about Biderman's actions contributing to significant reputational damage, and they are doing what they can to restore public confidence by creating distance between Chabad and Biderman.
As for your point about each Chabad center being an autonomous unit, you could not be more wrong. When Australian Shluchim were found to be acting in an unacceptable way, Chabad in Crown Heights (Merkos) issued a public statement, Rabbonim were "encouraged" to resign and Rabbi Feldman was removed from Chabad.org
I would not be surprised to read another Merkos statement in the future apologizing for Biderman's corruption and his subsequent removal from Chabad Shluchos. Biderman cannot and will not get away with the pain and suffering he has voluntarily contributed towards, in destroying the childhood of two innocent neshomos.
If Biderman believes all his actions are valid, why is he not issuing any response to all his criticisms on the blogs? Is it because he has no defence? Shesika Kehodo'oh.
“Les din v'les dayyan” “there is no justice and there is no Judge.” (Talmud Kiddushin 39b) - Is that really your response? What about "Lo Sa'amod Al Dam Reachoh"? What role are you playing in all this?
what about the Avlah in la with cunin misusing monies from the government that were supposed to be for security??? and not paying the workers??? Biyomo Titayn Sichoroh???
will these shluchim continue to be invited for the yearly foto op???
by the way...how did the sex abuser in australia manage to get out of the country one step ahead of the law??? and how many years did it take for the others involved to be removed from chabad.org???
it is not only a chabad problem...but detracts greater because chabad is purported to be extremely insular and self-correcting....
Nu...the Sedra is Achrei Mos-Kedoshim and all too often, Nisma'atu Hadoros and we lose our way.
also, recall what happened years ago in Canada when there was a contentious divorce and despite the efforts of the religious (?) leaders of the community to obtain a Get....the 'husband' blew them off... and on a Shabbos morning, as davvening concluded...a voice proclaimed from the Ezras Nashim... until the Agunah status was ended... the Mikvah was closed... a Get was given that week.
Maybe mendel epstein will contemplate this alternative as he sits...

Doesn't sound very autonomous to me!

ReplyDeleteIs he related to someone powerful?
These are the questions to ask. Not (internal) sexual abuse issues.
