  4. Exceptional baal midos, baal daas and ohev yisroel.
Remember him from the Young Israel of Far Rockaway and the ahavas Eretz Yisroel that he gave over to his mispallilim.

  5. Rav Bulman was among my rebbeim at Ohr Somayach, Jerusalem, 1976. He was exceptional - serious and intelligent. "Baal daas" - apt description.

The topic of the role of English-speaking Jews in Israel is a KEY subject that is and will transform Israel as more and more English-speaking Jews come to Israel.

English-speaking Jews' innate sense and practice of moderation, fairness, democracy, open-mindedness, civility, acceptance, live-and-let-live, liberalness, etc (in short all the qualities that Rav Bulman embodied) will first counter-balance and then finally push aside the narrow, heated, oriental, Middle-Eastern, fanatical, rude, quarrelsome, combative, paranoid and harsh aspects that infect and infest all aspects of Israeli life.

Just as each big wave of olim has transformed the face and nature of Israeli life, the olim from the English-speaking countries (somewhat disparagingly referred to in Israel as "anglos"), particularly from the United States, will utterly change the face of Israeli society forever from top to bottom.

Israelis who are secular and religious, Charedi, Chasidish or Mizrachi will learn some great lessons from their English-speaking compatriots, all for the better.

As an example, take a close look at how the students, faculty and policies of the growing Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem have introduced an "America flavor" into local frum life (such as Rav Noson Tzvi Finkel Z"L forbidding attendance at any political rallies.)

Stay tuned as this unfolds over the next few years and decades!
