Therefore, the United States, which established in its Constitution 150 years ago that it will not uphold any faith or any ideology, rather, that each person shall do as he desires, and the regime will see that people do not molest one another, is carrying out God’s will. It's always been an interesting tension. On one hand, Orthodox Jewry benefits from societies like America - no official religious values, no enforcement of morals other than to keep public order.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, Orthodox communities are run under the exact opposite principles - official religious values, enforcement of a strict moral order. They use the leniency of the secular state to enforce the opposite at home.
