Former President Donald Trump on Saturday said he would encourage Russia to do “whatever the hell they want” to any NATO member country that doesn’t meet spending guidelines on defense in a stunning admission he would not abide by the collective-defense clause at the heart of the alliance if reelected.
The US defended Western Europe for decades following WW2 from the Soviet menace. In return, the Europeans acted like the Americans were uncultured hicks deserving of no respect while allowing their militaries to atrophy since the Americans were picking up the slack.
ReplyDeleteCanada, for example, is extremely guilty. Our army is used to help relieve staffing crises in nursing homes and isn't capable of much else. Our national security is provided quietly by the Americans and in return we insult them every chance we get.
And finally an American leader is saying "Allies, pull your weight" and getting mocked in return. What did you think would happen next?

DeleteHow is it treason? NATO members are supposed to put at least 2% of their GDP into military spending. Almost none done except the ones in Eastern Europe. Trump is calling them on this.
