Upon leaving the prison with a smiling, Sheinberg was asked if he had anything to say to the victims, and replied: "May they be well. I have paid my debt." Regarding providing compensation to the victims, he said: "They sued in a civil court. They will hopefully receive it."
Weinstein gets 100 years. This is a very poor sentence
ReplyDeleteSo this remains a ethical conundrum. Sheinberg did the crime and did the time. He has paid his debt to society, as the saying goes so how should he be treated now?
ReplyDeleteDid he apologize i.e. do tshuva or simply said I got punished but I will act as I did before?
ReplyDeleteI don't know. There are always multiple possibilities. A guy gets out of jail and says "Finally! I'm no longer being punished for something I never did and was falsely imprisoned for!" Or "Finally! I learned my lesson and will spend the rest of my life trying to be a better person."
ReplyDeleteLet's say Beis Din gave someone malkus and as the guy limps away he says 'Well as soon as I get home I'm going to do that same sin again!" Does the Beis Din stop him from going home?
