Pfizer Vax Immunity Waned in Israel, Regardless of Age

 Immunity against the Delta variant from Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine waned after a few months across age groups, Israeli researchers found.

Not surprisingly, rates of infection in July were higher among adults ages 60 and up who were fully vaccinated in January compared with those who were fully vaccinated in March (rate ratio [RR] 1.6, 95% CI 1.3-2.0), reported Yair Goldberg, PhD, of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, and colleagues.

    The data around the booster looks encouraging. It seems to induce a massive response even in those whose original protection has faded.

    The immunity against infection and symptomatic infection waned. Yet, it still protected equally from severe infection, as found in every country. That is the result of immune memory which is induced regardless of what happens subsequently with circulating antibodies.
