Like millions of other Americans, I grew up in the evangelical
Christian subculture. We were taught that if we took a stand for what we
believe, we would face opposition. Our pastors and leaders told us that
nonbelievers in the world would mistreat us, insult us and even
persecute us. Never would I have thought that what they warned us about
wouldn’t actually be coming from the outside but from within.
This is old news.
ReplyDeleteOne of the funniest things I ever heard was a woman speaking at a gathering of mostly evangelicals that I went to organized by a Jewish woman Esther Levins. The woman starts by saying that when she was a teenager she was reading the "Old Testament" and realized that its prophecies were fulfilled by the circumstances in Eretz Yisrael.
She got excited and wanted to share this with others, which led to her getting kicked out of her church. Then she goes on how she gets expelled and booted out of church after church over the years, till she finally found a spiritual home with other pro-Israel evangelicals.
It was funny because I knew her from the political activism group we were both part of, and she was not like a firebrand or anything.
The evangelical movement has tens of millions of people in it, and despite being organized, it really is decentralized. So not surprising there is internal discussions about how to deal with Donald Trump, a man who is better than the available alternatives, but not one of them.
I wonder who the Blog Owner would prefer to see as future POTUS.
ReplyDelete1) Crazy Bernie Sanders (failed intermarried Jew, avowed socialist)
