Ain't no naval like a naval b'rushut haTorah, eh?
ReplyDeleteA pure, unfortunate accident when mob scenes join Rebbes in their day-to-day activities. Easy to repair, repent and regret....no big deal!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a chasid but do think that the Rebbe will instruct his followers not to come again in throngs in order to avoid this unfortunate incident again.
ReplyDeleteThis is utterly sickening, and it demonstrates (once again) how various elements of "Chassidism" are very far from true Torah chasidus, and instead have degenerated into depraved movements.
ReplyDeleteThat may be a bit much. I highly doubt the Chasidim noticed they were damaging the gravestone. That's the real problem - in their zeal to see the stone they came for they simply didn't see any others. It's the blinkered vision that's the problem.
DeleteThousands of Belzer Chassidim were at the tziyun of Rav Aaron of Belz ZT”L on his yahrzeit Sunday, 21 Menachem A 5773. As was reported by YWN, due to the large crowd the adjoining matzeivah collapsed. That matzeivah is for the kever of HaGaon HaRav Moshe Feinstein ZT”L.
ReplyDeleteAccording to a Ladaat report quoting members of Rav Moshe’s family, had they been aware that so many mispallalim would come to Rav Aaron’s kever annually, they would not have permitted Rav Moshe to be buried alongside.
Whatever the case when the rebbe heard of the incident, he immediately acted, donating the money towards repairing Rav Moshe’s matzeivah immediately. Acting upon the rebbe’s instructions, workers labored through the night and the repair of Rav Moshe’s matzeivah was completed by Monday morning, 22 Menachem Av 5773.

It is nevertheless a bad sign not just for Belz and their Rebbe but also for Klal Yisroel. What do you mean they don't know who Rav Moshe Feinstein is? There are so many American and English speaking Belzers visiting Israel many times a year (many must have been at this incident and witnessed it) and their sons and sons in law who live in Israel. It is indicative of total scorn and am ha'aratzoos even rishus. It just shows that they don't give a hoot about Litvaks and their Gedolim. Can you imagine if it was another Chasidish Rebbe lying nearby? Would they also claim "ignorance" and "innocence"? When was the last time something like this happened? Are they all idiots or learning disabled? Is there no "parental supervision" of the younger guys?
DeleteDespite the fact that the kever-matzeiva of Rav Moshe Feinstein may have been patched up quickly nevertheless great damage has been done and remains for the record for all the world to see as it now appears in pictures and in stories that anyone with an Internet connection can see for themselves. Something like this is very rare and the Belzers will pay for it especially at this time when they have launched a worldwide fundraising appeal with fancy brochures and glossy letters about how and why everyone should donate to Belz. The current Belzer Rebbe took a direct lesson from Chabad that you can raise lots of money from people outside of your own camp. No other Chasidus does this, and now the Belzer Rebbe will be hit in his bank accounts and will have to answer to all the Litvaks who won't donate to him because they respect Rav Moshe Feinstein's memory and gadlus and are not impressed with the vilda chayos that surround the Belzer Rebbe, how and why his wild followers committed such a CHILLUL HASHEM BEFARHESYA!!
The REAL thing the Belzer Rebbe needs to do now is to go down to the kever of Rav Moshe Feinstein and beg for MECHILA (berabim, just as his chasidim smashed the kever of Rav Moshe Feinstein berabim) for his mitzva haba'a be'aveira episode when in the course of "honoring" the kever of one of his own ancestors his own chasidim DESECRATED the kever of a previous Gadol HaDor and Posek HaDor whose piskei Halacha still guide the Olam HaTorah.
It is not a good thing what happened and it cannot be fixed with a few bucks thrown in the direction of some gravediggers! People must take this episode seriously.
In any case, the Tora says do not enquire of the dead. What do people do at the graves of tzaddikim? They enquire of the dead. They ask a rebbe or a Tzaddik to help them. This is neo-sabbateanism.
Deletego belz!!!!
ReplyDeletereb moshe was a true ohiav yisrael and would be happy to have his grave destroyed by these chios hakodesh
I would like to see the Belzer Rebbe give a major public address about this, and in general, how to act with derech eretz and so on, to his Chassidim, and be goizer taanis on them, or at least the ones who were present when the catastrophe occurred. Remember, it is almost Ellul now, less than six weeks to Rosh Hashanah.
ReplyDeleteFor such a terrible occurrence, major teshuvah is necessary, not just a little teshuvah on the cheap by the Rebbe, with the people who caused the disaster left off the hook.
THE FOLLOWING APPEARED YESTERDAY IN MATAAV SCHMOOTZ AS A LETTER TO THE EDITOR....VEHAMYVIN YAVIN
ReplyDeleteDear Editor,
At his Daf Yomi shiur this morning, our esteemed rov briefly mentioned the unfortunate incident that took place yesterday on Har Hamenuchos, with the matzeivah of Rav Moshe Feinstein zt”l being toppled due to the large crowds who had come to mark the yahrtzeit of Rav Aharon of Belz. Boruch Hashem, under the direction of the Belzer Rebbe, the matzeivah of Rav Moshe is being restored and, according to our rov, actions are being taken to ensure that this never happens again, even when large crowds converge on the area.
Our rov discussed the tragic nature of what happened, but then he posed a series of powerful questions:
What, he asked, is worse: Mistakenly stepping on a kever or purposely politicizing a story?
What, he asked, is worse: The unfortunate toppling of the kever of the gadol hador or twisting a news story and painting other Yidden in a negative light?
What, he asked, is worse: The unfortunate bizayon of a kever of the gadol hador or slanting a report about that very bizayon and then allowing people to share words of motzie sheim ra, lashon hara and other negative speech about fellow Yidden and Torah leaders?
Good questions, indeed.
Our rov seemed to have an answer, but he didn’t share it with us. He instead began his Daf Yomi shiur, leaving us to come up with the answer ourselves. He knew we knew the answer.
And so do you.
