Times of Israel With studies showing American Jewish women
marrying at older ages than ever, more and more Jewish women are
confronting the choice of whether to become single moms while it’s still
biologically possible, or to continue to gamble with those chances and
wait for Mr. Right.
Many mothers say the decision is the hardest
part. Can they raise a kid on their own? Will conservative-minded family
or friends ostracize them? Later in life, will their child resent them
for it?
Then there’s the cost. Aside from mothers
shouldering the burden of being the sole provider, fertility treatments
can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $50,000. In Israel, treatments are
free for women to have two children.
Tehilla Blumenthal, an Israeli psychologist
who wrote her doctoral dissertation on single Jewish mothers, says
medical technology that has made it easier for older women to become
pregnant has prompted a growing number of Jewish women to try single
motherhood.
One 41-year-old Orthodox Jewish doctor in the
New York area who recently gave birth to a set of twins through IVF said
she was pleasantly surprised by how accepting her community has been.
I don't understand why those women resort to artificial insemination for "halachic reasons".
ReplyDeleteSomehow, they seem to think that it is very, very bad to have sex without marriage.
however, I propose to ponder that it is very, very problematic from a halachic point of view when the father is unknown.
Would it not be possible to get a heter to have sex without marriage (but after mikwa) in such cases?
I doubt that artificial insemination is preferable from a halachic point of view, especially with an anonymous donor...
The sperm is from non-Jewish donors.
DeleteWhen tax breaks incentivize this behavior, this is what happens. The govt of israel and powers that be, along w the extreme leftwing groups, made a conscious decision to embrace the single-mother "identity" and narrative of victimhood. This along with the promotion of the gay agenda and the oslo peace accords is the isareli govt's way of destroying the family unit. How can the antizionists maintain their grip on power if the Jewish traditional values remain entrenched? This is part of their path to solidfy and eternalize their control over the Jews.
