SENIOR members of a Melbourne Jewish community have been accused of protecting an alleged child sex offender who worked at one of the order's schools.
David Cyprys, 43, a security guard at Yeshivah College in East St Kilda, was today arrested and charged with 29 counts of indecent assault and gross indecency relating to former students.
As I wrote on a comment to another post... What's this with helping accused child molesters escape to Israel? Do we really care so little for the safety of the Jewish children in Israel? Not only are we dumping the problem into someone else's backyard, at least the originating community knows to tell their children "I don't trust so-and-so so if he wants to talk to you or play with you, or even teach you Torah or give you treats, say 'no' and let me know..." The destination community is blind-sided.
ReplyDeleteI find it fascinating how secular law shows up the weakness of halacha in this area. Go with secular law and you get the pervert. Go with halacha and you protect him. Is this "tzedek tzedek tirdof"?
ReplyDeleteWeakness of the allegedly observant community.

It's a sad accusation about the distance between Orthodoxy as it exists and the Torah as Hashem told us to observe it. OTOH, it save you from "judging Judaism by the Jews" -- which at times feels like an inviting trip to kefirah.
