‘Code red for humanity’: UN report warns of unprecedented global warming

https://www.timesofisrael.com/code-red-for-humanity-un-warns-of-unprecedented-global-warming-acceleration/

Earth’s climate is getting so hot that temperatures in about a decade will probably blow past a level of warming that world leaders have sought to prevent, according to a report released Monday that the United Nations calls a “code red for humanity.”

“It’s just guaranteed that it’s going to get worse,” said report co-author Linda Mearns, a senior climate scientist at the US National Center for Atmospheric Research. “I don’t see any area that is safe… Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.”

But scientists also eased back a bit on the likelihood of the absolute worst climate catastrophes.

Ham With Hechsher Is Anything But Kosher

 https://collive.com/ham-with-hechsher-is-anything-but-kosher/

A photo has been shared on social media showing the packaging of the product “Boneless Sliced Hardwood Smoked Ham Steak.”

Under the brand of PICS owned by the Golub Company; Price Chopper in Schenectady, New York, it bore the symbol of the OU, the world’s largest kosher certification agency.

“Kosher when Moshiach (comes),” one person wrote. “Maybe he came (and) we didn’t hear yet.” Others suspected it was photoshopped.

In a statement released on Monday, June 7, the Orthodox Union’s kosher division said: “OU – The Orthodox Union does not certify PICS Ham. Some packaging bears an unauthorized OU. This product is being withdrawn from the marketplace.”

Kosher certified ham? Not so fast says the OU

The Internet is buzzing this week with reports of an “OU certified” ham, but despite the iconic hescher the Orthodox Union wants you to know that this hog is still not kosher.

Uncertainty and confusion as 250,000 ultra-Orthodox kids return to school

 https://www.timesofisrael.com/uncertainty-and-confusion-as-250000-ultra-orthodox-kids-return-to-school/

Over 250,000 Israeli children went back to school Monday as the ultra-Orthodox school system returned from its summer break amid uncertainty and confusion over new COVID testing requirements for students.

While most Israeli schools open their year on September 1, educational institutions in the Haredi sector usually begin studies from the start of the Jewish month of Elul, a month before the High Holidays commence.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett gave his approval to a plan prepared by the ministries of education, health and defense and the Prime Minister’s Office for the full reopening of the school year next month in the shadow of the latest coronavirus outbreak.

Disgraced cult leader Eliezer Berland hospitalized with coronavirus

 https://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/311374

Eliezer Berland, the disgraced leader of the Shuvu Banim community, has contracted coronavirus and has been hospitalized at Hadassah Ein Keren hospital in Jerusalem on oxygen support. Berland is 83 years old.

In June of this year, after a long-drawn-out legal process, Berland was convicted of serious offences and sentenced to 18 months in prison. He was later transferred to an undisclosed location, after his followers persisted in congregating outside the various places where he was being held and causing disturbances in the local community.

Berland was also fined the sum of NIS 2,415,000 ($743,250) and ordered to pay compensation to the victims of his crimes, which included fraud, attempted intimidation, tax offenses, and money laundering.

Why Tucker Carlson went to Hungary

That same sort of longing threads through conservative praise of Hungary, where immigration restriction and Hungary-first politics have been attained through pseudo-democratic authoritarian rule. But for right-wing activists in the US, who claim to be populists yet remain suspicious of democracy, that authoritarianism is a selling point rather than a flaw. As many on the right work to enact laws in the US to protect elections from voters, pack courts with partisan judges, and construct loyal propaganda outlets, they turn to Hungary as both inspiration and ally.

6/12/21– Shiur 326 – Lace Top Sheitels – Are They permissible?

bottom line - if you follow Rav Moshe it is nothing new and is permitted as hair covering

In addition Rav Moshe held it is the women's mitzva and since she clearly has halachic justification- husband can't tell her no

June 11, 2021

What's the difference from these to other Sheitlach? Is there really a difference? Can you see the hair underneath? Is there a problem of Maaris Ayin? Is it going against the Torah's will?

Sheitel propoganda continues

Sheitel must make woman unattractive?

There is another campaign against Sheitel apparently by a group of Breslov Baalei tshuva. This full page add appeared in the latest Bina Magazine. It claims a sheitel must lessen attraction. I have not seen such a claim before it certainly is not in Rav Moshe's discussion of sheitel.

Bowing to a tzadik

 Kedushas Levi(Shoftim)

Anger over synagogue exemptions as cabinet OKs new Green Pass virus restrictions

 https://www.timesofisrael.com/amid-synagogue-exception-row-cabinet-oks-new-green-pass-virus-restrictions/

Ministers gave the final go-ahead Thursday night to a plan that will significantly expand restrictions on gatherings under the Green Pass system meant to tamp down runaway coronavirus case numbers, despite misgivings over an 11th-hour decision to exempt places of worship.

Starting Sunday, gatherings of any size, indoors and out, will be limited to those who have been vaccinated, recovered from the virus, or who present a negative COVID test, under the Green Pass system, which will also extend to hotels, restaurants and gyms.

While the plan originally included synagogues and other houses of worship, the plan presented to ministers for a vote Thursday night exempted prayer services with fewer than 50 participants, drawing furious criticism from some cabinet members.
