In June 2022, the Texas State Republican Convention adopted a resolution urging the Legislature in 2023 to put a referendum before the people of Texas “to determine whether or not the State of Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation.”
Wouldn't be so sure.
ReplyDeleteTexas, after all, is the only state that was an independent country before joining the Union. They may use that as a precedent to leave.
Second, it's not like they're surrounded by the US on every side. They're the southern border. They have other options.
Third, it all depends on how badly the US wants another civil war. Don't mess with Texas!
The secession movement is not in full swing, but neither is it dormant. The thing is, that because secession is not a subject covered much in mainstream media, and bringing it up on social media can lead to getting banned, the discussion is taking place quietly and/or in out of the way places.
