AS RAV Moshe has said talmidei chachomim dont have superior knowledge except regarding TORAH itself
A few years ago there was a widespread attack on going to psychologists
It was later revealed that the real issue was going to a therapist without first getting a rabbi's recommendation
EVEN THOUGH ALL KNOWLEDGE IS CONTAINED IN THE TORAH but R Freifeld told me we are not on the level to get it out
Rav Moshe poskened not to read secular marriage manuals until just immediately before the wedding
Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach advised a young couple not to get married without setting aside enough money for 20 years of marriage therapy

THIS APPLIES TO ALL ISSUES NOT JUST THERAPY INCLUDING EDUCATION AND MEDICAL ISSUES AS WELL AS FINANCIAL ONES
An area which finds a clash between halacha and the mental field, is when mental health practitioners, recommend that their patients to do things that are prohibited according to the Torah, for "therapeutic purposes".

“When you take the field against your enemies, and the Lord your God delivers them into your power and you take some of them captive, and you see among the captives a beautiful woman and you desire her and would take her to wife, you shall bring her into your house, and she shall trim her hair, pare her nails, and discard her captive’s garb. She shall spend a month’s time in your house lamenting her father and mother; after that you may come to her and possess her, and she shall be your wife. Then, should you no longer want her, you must release her outright. You must not sell her for money: since you had your will of her, you must not enslave her.” (Deuteronomy 21:10-14).
I heard. “When you take the field against your enemies, and the Lord your God delivers them into your power” we realize it is God who delivers them into our power. The trials/tribulations start when we feel that due to us and not to God “you take some of them captive.”
We must be “You must be wholehearted with the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 18:13). Meaning, not to look for soothsayers/augurs etc. Exciting John Bolton and his staff are meeting with our top officials I Israel. We pray for the Lord our God to save us from pour enemies.
Interesting,I was just watching a video of the Lubavitcher Rebbe ztl, speaking on how to choose a mentor. He says one of the qualities or characteristics is for the mentor (Rav) to like an angel in his conduct. That rules out many who are dishonest, who embarrass people or mock you, or put you down.
