I don't get the headline: what religious rights are being threatened? The right to discriminate against gays? Where'd that come from?
ReplyDeleteMaybe I've been living in Oberlin and New York too long, but this "controversial" legislation sounds pretty normal to me - "The amendment to the city’s existing non-discrimination policy, which was presented to the city council Tuesday, would prohibit the city from discriminating based on sexual orientation, gender identity or expression against employees, as well as anyone who has a contract with the city or who uses city facilities."
"Right now it’s legal in Memphis to be fired simply because someone is gay or lesbian or transgender." Is this a good thing?
What's the chiddush, and what's the big deal, from a religious rights point of view?
Ditto what YitzN said. Like about 50% what comes out of FoxNews, This is tabloid trash & not worth one's attn. Just a bunch of fundamentalists working within the legislative system to drive their ideological opponents out of town.
