Iran has rejected as "fake news" President Donald Trump's claims that a deal to end the war is near, as Tehran continued to bombard the Gulf states.
The Trump administration sent a 15-point ceasefire plan to Iran via Pakistan, it has been reported. But Iranian military spokesman Lt. Col. Ebrahim Zolfaghari appeared to mock these attempts, telling state television: "someone like us will never come to terms with someone like you."
Running Tehran's comments is like running Hamas'. It shows a certain moral bankruptcy.
ReplyDeletePresident Trump's strategy may be to highlight to the world the intransigence of the Iranian regime. So, it's good to publish what they say, if that's President Trump's plan. In my comment below, I suggest a reason why President Trump may want to get the Iranians on record saying that they refuse to negotiate.
DeleteMay-be-e-e, just, maybe, President Trump is setting up a ground invasion!!
ReplyDeleteHe can tell the world, "I am a man of peace. I was willing to negotiate. I did in fact negotiate. I gave the Iranians every possible opportunity to just give in a little: all they had to do was ooen up the Strait of Hormuz and make promises to meet the other points in the agreement. But they couldn't even do that. So, I was left with no choice but to invade. I didn't want it to be this way. And if oil prices stay high, Iran is to blame, not me."
