Yes, Donald Trump actually said it. After repeating the ridiculous lie that Joe Biden wants to “take away your guns, destroy your Second Amendment,” Trump spouted an even more desperate canard: “no religion, no anything. Hurt the Bible, hurt God. He’s against God, he’s against guns.”
The fact that a man who called Barack Obama a secret Muslim now claims that a lifelong churchgoing Catholic is an enemy of the Almighty gives us the perfect opportunity to introduce the 14th item in our list of 99 reasons to oust Trump: He shamelessly turns faith into a political cudgel, cheapening religion and dishonoring the American spirit.
Are we really going go go there?
ReplyDeleteIs there ONE Rabbi of a Reform or Conservative place or worship that DOESN'T attend services regularly?
Bill Clinton attended church on Sunday mornings and worshipped at the altar of Monica Lewinsky in the afternoon. Barack Obama sat in the pews of a racist, Jew-hating preacher.
ReplyDeleteHeck, closer to home - I'll bet people like Avraham Mondrowitz and Malka Leifer also attend shul on a regular basis.
Yeah, because religion has never been used as a political weapon before.
ReplyDeletetherefore anyone associated with religion is no good? which makes Trump great?!
ReplyDelete1) Never said Trump was great. I just said he's not doing anything new.
ReplyDelete2) If you hadn't noticed, religion and decency are often two separate things. Ramban's fear that people could be "menuval b'rshus haTorah" has come about. People are medakdek on the littlest ritual chumros but have no concern about lying to and stealing from others. Their religious practice does not connect to their ethical behaviour at all.
Trump is not great. He makes America great. And keeps it so.
ReplyDeleteMany of of us living in America are desperate not to get a Democrat in the White House. And Trump is our hope.
Biden has stalled. If his Vice Presidential pick and Presidential debate performance doesn't boost him in the polls, then he is going to be in dire straits. The Trump campaign has a billion dollars to tell the country about Biden, and the money will be spent to put him in the worst possible light. Meanwhile Trump has been overbashed. What can Biden do? Spend $600 million telling people what the media's been saying for four years?
If just 3% of voters in certain key States switch to Trump, then all bets are off.
These are great times to live. Thank you to Rabbi Eidensohn for keeping the blog Chevra together here. It's going to be an exciting second half of the Summer as things heat up on the political front.
It doesn't really matter who becomes President as long as we the voters have a real choice. Last election we had a real choice. And so now, too. Democracy is alive and well in the U.S.
Let the games begin!
