Rav Sternbuch 2 457 Whether to teach Tanach before Gemora

  1. Further to my earlier response on the other teshuva, the notion that studying TenaCh can lead to "heresy" is not a very logical one. The Neviim cannot be heretics. What is "heresy" is a difference of interpretation between the rabbis and the Prophets. By accepting the Torah of Moses, one is guided in the correct path - even if it annoys or upsets the rabbis.

  2. Funny the Sfas Emes on the torah in Parshas Shoftim says the way to br "TOMIM TIHYEH IM HASHEM ELOKECHA" is by learning Nevim and Kesuvim

  3. R' Moshe Shternbach is a big talmud chocham, but he is also a product of the charedi world. Everyone must learn ALL of Tanach (not just chumash) as he so rightfully pointed out that one must be a bucky in chof-daled seforim (many makoros on this.) The biggest Talmidei Chochamim I knew all are bucky in Nach and were so already from a young age.

  5. There doesn't seem to be a difference between the Sfas Emes and Rav Sternbuch.

First of all Rav Sternbuch cites the gemora in Berachos and the Chasam Sofer. He is not simply expressing his own view.

Secondly, the Sefas Emes is not talking about learning Tanach extensively prior to learning gemora.

Rav Sternbuch is specifically addressing learning Tanach prior to Gemora.
