Trump’s ‘historic’ deal to disarm Hamas faces uphill climb

President Trump’s announcement Thursday of a “historic” deal to disarm Hamas is drawing more skepticism than fanfare.

Hamas said it was prepared to abide by the terms, but only with the buy-in of Israel, which remains skeptical about the deal, according to a U.S official invited into the discussions.

The agreement would see Hamas hand over weapons in phases, with Israel ultimately withdrawing its military. However, with trust between the two sides at zero, countless hurdles remain to fulfilling Trump’s vision of a demilitarized and reconstructed Gaza.

  1. Name me one time the Arabs successfully fulfilled their part of an agreement leading to a bad outcome for Israel.
Remember how we were frustrated for 7 years as the PLO continually used Oslo to harm Israel until they finally torpedoed it themselves with Intifada II?
Or how we held our breath when Barak and Clinton met with Arafat, y"sh, at Camp David only to have Arafat walk out?
Or how Bush II insisted that only Israel had to follow The Road Map until it became obvious there was nothing to follow?
This will end the same. Hamas will abuse the agreement so much that the Americans will throw up their hands and tell Israel to do what it wants.
