The Rabbi and the Professor

aish

One of the regular participants was a professor at the Hebrew University, Robert J. (Yisrael) Aumann. Once a promising yeshiva student, he had eventually decided to pursue a career in academia, but made his weekly participation in Rav Gustman's shiur part of his schedule, along with many other more or less illustrious residents of Rechavia and Jerusalem.
The year was 1982. Once again, Israel was at war. Soldiers were mobilized, reserve units activated. Among those called to duty was a Reserves soldier, a university student who made his living as a high school teacher: Shlomo Aumann, Professor Yisrael Aumann's son. On the eve of the 19th of Sivan, in particularly fierce combat, Shlomo fell in battle.
Rav Gustman mobilized his yeshiva: All of his students joined him in performing the mitzvah of burying the dead. At the cemetery, Rav Gustman was agitated: He surveyed the rows of graves of the young men, soldiers who died defending the Land. On the way back from the cemetery, Rav Gustman turned to another passenger in the car and said, "They are all holy." Another passenger questioned the rabbi: "Even the non-religious soldiers?" Rav Gustman replied: "Every single one of them." He then turned to the driver and said, "Take me to Professor Aumann's home."
The family had just returned from the cemetery and would now begin the week of shiva -- mourning for their son, brother, husband and father. (Shlomo was married and had one child. His widow, Shlomit, gave birth to their second daughter shortly after he was killed.)
Rav Gustman entered and asked to sit next to Professor Aumann, who said: "Rabbi, I so appreciate your coming to the cemetery, but now is time for you to return to your Yeshiva." Rav Gustman spoke, first in Yiddish and then in Hebrew, so that all those assembled would understand:
"I am sure that you don't know this, but I had a son named Meir. He was a beautiful child. He was taken from my arms and executed. I escaped. I later bartered my child's shoes so that we would have food, but I was never able to eat the food -- I gave it away to others. My Meir is a kadosh -- he is holy -- he and all the six million who perished are holy."
Rav Gustman then added: "I will tell you what is transpiring now in the World of Truth in Gan Eden -- in Heaven. My Meir is welcoming your Shlomo into the minyan and is saying to him ‘I died because I am a Jew -- but I wasn't able to save anyone else. But you -- Shlomo, you died defending the Jewish People and the Land of Israel.' My Meir is a kadosh, he is holy -- but your Shlomo is a Shaliach Zibbur – a Cantor in that holy, heavenly minyan."
Rav Gustman continued: "I never had the opportunity to sit shiva for my Meir; let me sit here with you just a little longer."
Professor Aumann replied, "I thought I could never be comforted, but Rebbi, you have comforted me."

I heard a slightly different version from one of my sons who heard it from his yeshiva rebbe who said he was there when Rav Gustman spoke
he said that Rav Gustman said that his son had come to in a dream the night before urging his father to be menachem avel because he had been reincarnated as th son who had been killed in battle

The man was very confused. On parnassa matters he was very open minded. He also prayed for secular Jewish soldiers.

I listened to his arguments, but he is on this subject talking nonsense. He claims 4th July is Parve - despite the fact that Columbus was sent by the Church, and that 4th July could be chukas hagoy. On the other hand, he says 5th iyar is a chillul Hashem - he is again talking nonsense. the state was declared on 5th Iyar by David Ben Gurion, who was not an atheist. BG believed in G-d, and the Tanakh. Mishnah says we draft even a woman under her chuppah to war, so what is the crime of drafting women to the war front?

Next, the Navi says the following: Ez 39

9 And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and

    shall make fires of the weapons and use them as fuel, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the hand-staves, and the spears, and they shall make fires of them seven years;
    ______________

There will be cities already before the War , let alone Moshiach.
12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying them, that they may cleanse the land.

This population is called בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל

So these people are secular Jews, who only know G-d after this war of Gog, as per sefer Yechezkel.

I don't care if Miller was a manager in Rav Hutner's yeshiva, he doesn't know his basic Tanach, and thus is unfit to teach Torah. His own views expressed in this sill tape are contrary to the Torah and neviim. what a sad joke.

  4. “The Rabbi and the Professor”
I’m a rabbi and a professor. Allow me to show here my letter today to SCOTUS:
    Questions Presented
Can NYS Kings County Supreme Court Judge Eric I. Prus block me from seeing a critical document? Can Susan's lawyer, Myla Serlin, block me from seeing a critical document? The critical document is the 1995 Rigler Order of Separation used to justify the 2013 NYS civil divorce Gerald v. Susan despite the Israel divorce 1993.

    Opinions Below
NYS Court of Appeals ruled May 10, 2019
    “Mo. No. 2019-266
    Susan Aranoff,
    Respondent,
    v. Gerald Aranoff,
    Appellant.
Motion for leave to appeal dismissed upon the
ground that the Court of Appeals does not have
    jurisdiction to entertain it (see NY Const, art VI, \S 3;
CPLR 5602). Motion for poor person relief dismissed as academic.” See Exhibit A: New York State Court of Appeals Decision May 9, 2019.

3.The relief I seek is for the Supreme Court of the United States: 1) First to cancel and nullify Exhibit B: Contested Judgment of Divorce Judge Eric I.\ Prus signed 9/10/2013. 2) Second, to cancel and nullify Judge Prus' awarding my house to Susan. 3) Third, for a decision that NYS courts have no more control over the QDRO that tells TIAA to pay Susan 55% of my pension with no end in sight.

8.Allow me to list the illegal cash Susan accepts due to questionable actions of NYS judges that may violate the Bible. Leviticus 19:15 states “You shall not render an unfair decision: do
not favor the poor or show deference to the rich; judge your kinsman fairly.”

a.$23,037.36 in January 1998. The 1997 QDRO \P 1 states: “The parties hereto seek this Order in conjunction with this Court's child support orders of July 22, 1994 and January 6, 1997 in that action pending in this Court at the above number.” The court's child support orders of July 22, 1994 were made retroactive to when I was still in NY.
b.Susan accepted from Judge Rigler's $10,000. Susan showed Judge Rigler a $10,000 check payable to Gerald Aranoff (will money from Bill Richardson). Judge Rigler gave that money to Susan. This was during the period 1994-1997 of the 100% freeze on my TIAA pension.
c.Susan accepts 55% of my TIAA pension.

    3.Reasons for Granting the Petition
The trial and jail sentence of the late Judge Gerald Garson was just the tip of the iceberg of fraud etc in NYS civil courts. The Court granting me my petition will help root out fraud etc in NYS civil courts.

  7. Daas Torah Mod replies to me “Why do you think it is relevant?
    Daf Hayomi
    Bechoroth 23b
“Indeed [Rab refers] to [the teachings of] R. Simeon b. Gamaliel, and this is what he teaches us, that [the difference of opinion] in the Baraitha is not considered a difference of opinion [to be taken into account]. But since Rab said: The law is according [to the Mishnah] in the whole chapter, except where there is a difference of opinion.”
Similarly, there is no difference of opinion to be taken into account in the Mishnah
    Kethuboth 77a:
“Mishnah. A man in whom bodily defects have arisen cannot be compelled to divorce [his wife]. R. Simeon B. Gamaliel said: this applies only to minor defects, but in respect of major defects [The nature of these is explained in the Gemara] he can be compelled to divorce her.”
She demands a divorce and her husband refuses. What could the judges do? The law is nothing, unless a major defect arose. This is against ORA, Agunah International, K-G support, Rabbi Rackman etc.
This does relate to me! Allow me to show 1 and 2 of my letter to SCOTUS. I’m attacking NYS judges! The Torah is attacking crooked judges in “You shall not render an unfair decision: do not favor the poor or show deference to the rich; judge your kinsman fairly.” (Leviticus 19:15).
1.I request permission to make this motion. I'm acting pro se. I attach 1) Exhibit A: New York State Court of Appeals Decision May 9, 2019 and 2) Exhibit B: Contested Judgment of Divorce Judge Eric I. Prus signed 9/10/2013 and 3) Exhibit C: US Federal Judge Sand March 6, 2009 and 4) Exhibit D: Amended Complaint Action for Divorce. I'm including an affidavit of service with attached UPS proof of mailing. I'm sending an original securely bound, to US Supreme Court, 1 First Street, NE, Washington DC 20543 USA attention Scott S.\ Harris, Clerk of the Court 202-479-3011. I request the Court to accept my papers without notarization since, in Israel, a US citizen can only get court acceptable notarizations from the US embassy by appointment, and none are available now. I also request poor person relief as I'm 73, retired with virtually no assets and have bank debts, living on USA and Israel social security and on 45\% of my TIAA pension. I attach separately a motion for leave to proceed in forma pauperis. My dear wife, Yemima,, is retired from her employment as a clerk at Bank Mizrachi. Today is our 26th wedding anniversary as we were married May 9, 1993, after I divorced Susan February 17, 1993. We are blessed with 3 daughters: Hadassah, Tamar, and Sapphire Rivka. Each daughter has a USA social security number. We thank God for our blessings and good fortune. I ask the court to allow me to report only my income and assets, as Yemima's income and assets are not large and not relevant.
2.Eric I. Prus is a judge of the New York Supreme Court 2nd Judicial District. He was elected to his position in the official ballot for the general election--City of New York--County of Kings--November 6, 2018 justices of the Supreme Court. His current term expires 2032.
When we attack ORA, Agunah International, the K-G garbage heter, Rabbi Rackman --- we’re attacking judges, outsiders who have no right to intervene. Adultery and other charges are normal in marital disputes. Outsiders are advised not to take sides.
“A passerby who gets embroiled in someone else’s quarrel Is like one who seizes a dog by its ears” (Proverbs 26:17). In my SCOTUS I show the judges committing crimes. K-G garbage heter, K and G committed a crime.

  8. Torah thought on Parsha אמר
“Anything blind, or injured, or maimed, or with a wen, boil-scar, or scurvy—such you shall not offer to the Lord; you shall not put any of them on the altar as offerings by fire to the Lord. You may, however, present as a freewill offering an ox or a sheep with a limb extended or contracted; but it will not be accepted for a vow. You shall not offer to the Lord anything [with its testes] bruised or crushed or torn or cut. You shall have no such practices [i.e., mutilations] in your own land, nor shall you accept such [animals] from a foreigner for offering as food for your God, for they are mutilated, they have a defect; they shall not be accepted in your favor.” (Leviticus 22:22-25).
Hertz Chumash: “The blemishes which disqualify the animal as an offering are very similar to those which render the priest unfit for service (xxi, 18f).”
My theory. The blemishes in the parsha render a person unfit for marriage. Kethuboth 77a
“Mishnah. The following are compelled to divorce [their wives]: a man who is afflicted with boils, or has a polypus,19 or gathers [objectionable matter]20 or is a coppersmith20 or a tanner,20 whether they were [in such conditions or positions] before they married or whether they arose after they had married.”
    I like the explanation of the Tosephot;
Yes, the wife who sues in a bet din for a divorce not only gets her divorce but also the (kethubah) money. My theory is that the money is the big fight. Don’t many say that the main obstacle in freeing an agunah is the money? The Agunah wants her freedom and the money. Who can blame her. B”H I never cared for money. Notice in my SCOTUS petition I attack the judge. This gets SCOTUS interest. I fight ORA, Agunah International, Rabbi Rackman, K-G, etc because angry women looking for money do trickery/fraud. The Tosephot says that where there are grounds to suspect fraud, the woman does not get the money. Beautiful.

    http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/23853
“One of the important subjects that should be dealt with on Yom Ha’atzma’ut is the mitzvah of peru u’revu (procreation), by means of which Israel inherits the Holy Land, as it was said to our forefather Yaacov: “And the Lord was standing beside him and He said, I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac: the ground on which you are lying I will assign to you and to your offspring. Your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All the families of the earth shall bless themselves by you and your descendants. Remember, I am with you: I will protect you wherever you go and will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” (Genesis 28:13-15). When Israel was about to enter the Land, the Divine instruction was to inherit only the western side of the Jordan, despite the fact that the eastern side of the Jordan River is part of Eretz Yisrael and had already been conquered, as explained in the Torah portion ‘Massey’. This was because the ‘Dor HaMidbar’ (the Generation of the Desert) despised the Land of Israel and was negligent in the mitzvah of peru u’revu, and consequently, during the forty years of wandering in the desert, they did not continue to multiply and increase as they did in Egypt. This created a situation in which there were not enough people to properly inherit the eastern side of the Jordan as well (see, Ramban, Numbers 21:21). The price paid for not having enough Jews to settle all of the Land of Israel was that our enemies remained, and the Torah’s warning, “But if you do not dispossess the inhabitants of the land, those whom you allow to remain shall be stings in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall harass you in the land in which you live” (Numbers 33:55), came to fruition.”
Beautiful. Note Rabbi Eliezer Melamed talks of the mitzvah of פרו ורבו especially in Israel.

  11. More on “This was because the ‘Dor HaMidbar’ (the Generation of the Desert) despised the Land of Israel and was negligent in the mitzvah of peru u’revu, and consequently, during the forty years of wandering in the desert, they did not continue to multiply and increase as they did in Egypt.”
My Theory: Rabbi Eliezer Melamed says that the Jews in the desert didn’t do פרו ורבו the way they did in Egypt. The population was stagnant during the 40 years. Bad. Looks like their sin was not being busy with פרו ורבו the way they were in Egypt. This left them open to יצר הרע for the Moabite women. I say this is why the Bar Kochba revolt failed: these 24,000 should’ve been busy making babies, not war. Let God do the wars. Surely our Sages were deathly afraid of the Roman censors when they wrote Yevamoth 62b. The rabbis wrote that the 24,000 deaths was a plague from God their own fault and not the fault of the evil Romans. Follow, KA?
    This cannot be the truth:
    Yevamoth 62b
“It was said that R. Akiba had twelve thousand pairs of disciples, from Gabbatha21 to Antipatris;22 and all of them died at the same time because they did not treat each other with respect. The world remained desolate23 until R. Akiba came to our Masters in the South and taught the Torah to them. These were R. Meir, R. Judah, R. Jose, R. Simeon and R. Eleazar b. Shammua; and it was they who revived the Torah at that time. A Tanna taught: All of them24 died between Passover and Pentecost. R. Hama b. Abba or, it might be said, R. Hiyya b. Abin said: All of them died a cruel death. What was it?-R. Nahman replied: Croup.25”
There is a claim in Jewish mysticism that these 24,000 Rabbi Akiva students were the reincarnation גלגול נשמות of the 24,000:
“While Israel was staying at Shittim, the people profaned themselves by whoring ויחל העם לזנות with the Moabite women” (Numbers 25:1)
“Those who died of the plague numbered twenty-four thousand.” (Numbers 25:9).

  12. Reading Yevamoth 62b the citation of the 24,000 deaths of Rabbi Akiva’s students is to prove that one must try have children even in old age. We love Rabbi Akiva, the former chief rabbi of Bnei Brak in the Haggadah.
    I take issue with:
They take the Baraisa on Yevamoth 62a literally on the deaths of the 24,000. No, I say. Schottenstein states before the Baraisa: “The Baraisa records that Rabbi Akiva exemplified this principle himself” Schottenstein states right after the Baraisa: In summary: The Gamara discusses three distinct obligations upon a man related to taking a wife: (a) פריה ורביה... (b)...that a man is not permitted to remain single, regardless of the number of children he already has; (c)...a man should continue to father children even if he has fulfilled the mitzvah of procreation...a fourth obligation of inhabiting the world...”
I don’t take the 24,000 deaths literal. My theory. See https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-to-liberate-venezuela-11557688819
“Venezuela’s fearsome intelligence service struck another blow against the democratic opposition last week by arresting Edgar Zambrano in Caracas.... Interim President Juan Guaidó remains free, but the regime now holds some 870 political prisoners, according to the Venezuelan nongovernmental organization Foro Penal. Since a failed uprising April 30, Mr. Maduro’s henchmen have doubled down on repression.... Rescuing Venezuela starts with the recognition that the country is occupied. Russian military support is troubling—as is the Venezuelan-Iranian relationship, which I wrote about in November 2014. Tehran has likely planted sleeper cells throughout the country.”
My theory is that Mary Anastasia O’Grady analysis of Venezuela is similar to the situation our Sages who wrote the Bariasa in Kethuboth 66a. Our Sages faced the fearsome intelligence service of the Roman Empire who captured and jailed so many of our Sages. With the failure of the Bar Kochba revolt, the Roman Empire doubled down on repression. We were occupied by The Roam Empire who planted sleeper cells throughout the county.
What to do? Make babies. This is Rabbi Eliezer Melamed’s advice for us today. I love the Schottenstein summary on Yevamoth 92a:
Schottenstein states right after the Baraisa: In summary: The Gamara discusses three distinct obligations upon a man related to taking a wife: (a) פריה ורביה... (b)...that a man is not permitted to remain single, regardless of the number of children he already has; (c)...a man should continue to father children even if he has fulfilled the mitzvah of procreation...a fourth obligation of inhabiting the world...”

  13. Rabbi Eliezer Melamed says:
“Some people find it difficult to rejoice on Yom Ha’Atzma’ut because they accept the falsehood that the Zionist movement caused the abandonment of Torah and mitzvot. However, the truth is the exact opposite. Although many disbelievers operated within the framework of the Zionist movement and one of their goals was to secularize the nation, in practice, thanks to the Zionist movement and its activities on behalf of the ingathering of the exiles, the Jewish people were saved physically and spiritually. Secularism was caused due to many reasons – mainly because of the difficulty in dealing with enlightenment and modern society. Aliyah (immigration) to Israel was not the source of the problem, but rather, the solution. Consequently, in all Diaspora communities the percentage of assimilation and secularism is immeasurably greater than in Israel. Anyone who refuses to see this, and slanders the State of Israel, is an ingrate – unthankful for the goodness God has bestowed upon us, and unappreciative towards the activists of the Zionist movement over the generations.”
I find it difficult to be sad during the days of ספירת העמר because I reject the falsehood that 24,000 Torah students died during the days of ספירת העמר and stopped dying on ל"ג בעומר. We mourn that the Roman Empire occupied us, imprisoned us, and killed us and that the Bar Kochba revolt failed. Thanks to Rabbi Akiva and Torah teaching saved us physically and spiritually. We’re alive today and witnessing the ingathering of the exiles and the economic, technological, and spiritual growth in Israel. For this we are grateful to God and declare a holiday and say Hallel. In Exile spiritual growth is declining to our sorrow. We should no longer mourn what the Roman Empire did to us with laws against marriages and haircuts. Yes I’m going against Rabbi Moshe Feinstein (1895-1986). We have today Rabbi Eliezer Melamed.

    Well said.
Rav Moshe was also positive about the State, and Rav Shlomo Z Auerbach and rav Elyashiv were very excited about the declaration of the state being the beginning of the redemption or ingathering of the exiles. Rav Henkin also changed his view, and became a supporter, and Rav Isser Zalman Meltzer was a supproter and also a close friend to Rav Kook, as were the rest i've mentioned. SO mainstream were positive towards the state.

  16. In the year 5712 Rabbi Neriah (who founded the "Bnei Akiva" yeshivas) was alone with the Rebbe, and on his departure he told the CHR that he was alone.
He asked the Rebbe why Chabad was not celebrating Independence Day.
The Rebbe replied that he was afraid to answer him, lest Rabbi N will fall from the chair.
Rabbi N turned to the Rebbe, who nevertheless wants to hear!
The Rebbe told him that the correct question is not why Chabad is not celebrating ... but why Chabad does not fast on this day!
Rabbi N. said that he knew that the Rebbe was very sharp on the subject of "Zionism" but did not describe it as being so strong.
The Rebbe continued while discussing the establishment of the state and had 2 proposals. One proposal was an independent state, a second suggestion that it be a member state of the Commonwealth Organization.
The Arabs announced that if it was a state in the Commonwealth of Nations they would be silent but if it was by declaring independence they would go to war!
The Rebbe continued: The heads of state decided that despite the threat of the Arabs, they wanted independence
Of Jewish children will be spilled, yet they preferred "independence
The question is: "Should we celebrate or fast?"

that's a tall story - where is the evidence that Israel could have been part of the Commonwealth, and that the Arabs would not object to it? The Arabs even objected to "partititon", which gave half or more of the land to them.
