  3. This is not new. I saw this at least a year ago, probably longer and it doesn't seem to have made any kind of impression on any of the right people. I've always wondered who taped it and who released it. Add to that why is it being re-released now?

  4. The Chazon Ish had similar problems with Roshei Yeshiva. At one time he told the Rosh Yeshiva to take someone in, and that he personally would tutor him! But there is a method to the madness. A parent seeks out a school of elites, so his kid will stand out. To admit non-elite students can cause some parents to remove their good children and to lower the name of the school. This is the Gaavoh mentioned here, but it is a terrible problem for the poor Rosh Yeshiva. Of course, to be refused in a Yeshiva is a greater problem for the poor child. But the Chazon Ish said that these were questions of life and death and the Rosh Yeshiva cannot think only of the good of the name of the Yeshiva.

    1. Such attitudes didn't develop over night and they will not be changed over night. Re-releasing it helps extend its influence.

    2. I believe there was another incident where those who involved in starting a new high school canceled their plans very close to its opening after the Rav instructed them that it would be inappropriate to try to start a school "frummer" than Beis Ya'akov.

  6. The father and rest of family are spoken about in a way that will doubtless be very embarrassing and hurtful for them.

I therefore do not see the to'eles of putting this on the internet, especially given that it will surely not make any difference as far as school policies are concerned.

Disgusting to see how callous and unsympathetic the school administrators are, whether or not they have a valid contention.

    1. Nobody knows who the father or school child being spoken about is.

  7. I don't like the "bad apple" mentality and the criteria upon which these exclusions are made.

This said, there are really children (rare, extreme cases) who can make a class suffer (e.g. by bad behaviour during class), and I think the teacher should have the possibility of throwing them out if they don't behave, even if that means they will remain without a school: the learning or safety of 20 children is more important than the schooling of one who does not behave.

  8. Dovid: Gimme a break! The good that can result from the video as opposed to the harm is exponentially greater. Don't make mountains out of molehills!(On a personal note, watching Rav Shteinman certainly dissipates some of the anger I feel at the leaders of the Israeli Chareidim.)

    1. Dovy: Sorry, but I don't think that any menahel will change his policy due to the airing of this video, nor would they do so just because they heard that this is what Rav Shteinman holds.

    2. I disagree -- there are always fence-sitters on every issue (perhaps even the majority of any group are 'in the middle') and it certainly has to tug at their heartstrings to see a 100-year old godol standing up for those who have no voice.

    3. Dovy,

Do you live in Israel? Dont hate leaders of a community in which you dont live. It isnt healthy.

  9. one of the "undesirables" in some such charedi circles are children of american olim (even if the child was born in israel.)

rav elyashiv('s askanim) gave orders to a basis yaakov principal to admit the students, but the principal did not comply (with the blessing of the rest of the parents.)
