Bnei Brak is the capital of pedophiles: Refusing to report abuse

English version of article http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3850261,00.html
YNET

  1. YNET is an anti-semitic rag. It has no credence.

  2. This is a disaster, to say the least.

That rabbonim are discouraging people from reporting abuse and pedophiles take advantage of that is a story that will explode.

On many levels, this is very tragic.

This kind of abuse must be addressed, fully and openly. The charedi community must be unambiguous in demanding a zero tolerance policy.

RSO, what have we become that children aren't safe in our midst?

Publish soon, please. And get on a speaking circuit quickly. Rabbonim, professionals and lay people must be equipped and empowered to deal with these issues before they consume us. This has to bea priority, whatever the cost.

I heard the same comment from a member of Rav Silman's program dealing with child abuse.

  4. Perhaps you can have censored news like in Yated, then nothing will ever go wrong in your community, You simply believe what they publish, and ignore reality.

  5. YNet's editorial stance is not at issue here.

They are reporting scientific data- and non reporting in charedi communities is not fiction concocted by Ynet

  7. The false claim that BB is the "capital" of this is spurious and "unscientific". YNET editorializes its "news" stories especially against Torah Jews.

  8. Dave and YN accuse Kadman of slandering Bnei Brak because the official statistics of reported crimes is low.

Dr, Kadmon was relying on other data in making his claim that BB is a pedophile capital. The YNet English article doesn't state the source of the data. In the US there are national victimization surveys where a valid sample is asked if they have been sexually assaulted. There is always a much larger rate of sexual assaults reported in these surveys then is reported to the police.

Everyone knows that the chareidi rate of under-reporting of sexual crimes is very substantial because of community pressure.

It is all good and well for the mayor of BB to huff and puff and quote the official rates. But if he is no tipesh, the mayor knows he is lying when he claims that BB is one of the safest places for children in Israel.

  9. Yerachmiel -- That hearsay that quote "everyone knows" there is substantial underreporting in Chareidi communities is entirely false.

There is little such reporting in those areas since it occurs extremely infrequently.
