Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Trump spokeswoman Kellyanne Conway confirmed the show’s earlier report that the incoming Trump administration will not pursue charges against his general election opponent Hillary Clinton for her use of an unauthorized email server while secretary of state and on any of the alleged wrongdoing involving her and her family’s charitable organization the Clinton Foundation.
According to Conway, Clinton still faces a challenge in rebuilding her own image and suggested this was part of Trump helping the former first lady “heal.”
“I think when the President-elect, who’s also the head of your party, tells you before he’s even inaugurated that he doesn’t wish to pursue these charges, it sends a very strong message, tone, and content to the members,” Conway said. “And I think Hillary Clinton still has to face the fact that the majority of Americans don’t find her to be honest and trustworthy. But if Donald Trump can help her heal, then perhaps that is a good thing. Look, I think he’s thinking of many different things as he is preparing to become president of the United States, and things that sound like the campaign aren’t among them.”

Trump’s apparent decision, conveyed by former campaign manager Kellyanne Conway in an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,’’ is a change from his campaign rhetoric, in which he issued incendiary calls for a special prosecutor to reopen the FBI’s closed investigation of Clinton’s use of a private server while serving as secretary of state and had also urged investigations of allegations of corruption at the Clinton Foundation. He nicknamed the Democratic nominee “Crooked Hillary” and encouraged chants of “Lock her up!” at his rallies.
Trump’s decision to pursue or not pursue a criminal investigation from the Oval Office would be an extraordinary break with political and legal protocol, which holds that the attorney general and FBI make decisions on whether to conduct investigations and file charges, free of pressure from the president. Trump has not spoken directly about his apparent change of heart but hinted at it in a post-election interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes” in which he expressed warm feelings toward Clinton and her husband, former president Bill Clinton. ReplyDeleteWhat's clear is that the border needs to be protected and our laws enforced. Details are negotiable but not the principle of the thing.
Actually, this is all wrong. The president does not have the authority to open an investigation of anyone. It is entirely within the purview of the Justice Department, which is supposed to act according to what they think is the best course of action. Trump's campaign promise to throw her in jail indicated either that he has no clue as to what the limitations of a president are, or that he will say things that are patently false in order to rile up his supporters. In fact, both of the above are certainly true, the only question is which one is operative in this case.

ReplyDeleteIt is known as the forgive and forget mantra.Or maybe President elect Trump did his famous lines that he would prosecute her to rally his side,and it sure did work!!But at the end of the day,why even bother??If anything,I would love for some investigative journalist to get to the bottom of what Clinton was so desperate to delete.She seemed to be hiding something!!!

ReplyDeletedon't know what you are talking about. What does holding closer mean ? I assume it means that one must know more about what ones enemy is up to then ones friends. So why are the Clinton's indebted to Trump?!
ReplyDeleteIndebted because he's not going to do something like appoint a special prosecutor to go after them. Now, if Mr. Trump needs their help on some issue, he can reach out to them. Mr. Clinton called Mr. Trump and was "gracious" according to Mr. Trump. The idea is to defang the opponent, and keep them around.
