R' Nochem Kaplan: Jewish education

Chabad Lubavitch News

Let me first say this: I believe that the quality of Jewish education today is better than it was a generation ago. But the demands of the times are much greater. Children must feel that education speaks to them, encourages them, interests them, and excites them so that distractions from the outside don't take priority. We're still falling short here. The world today is an exciting place. If you just log on to the internet, the distractions are enormous and pervasive, so you can't expect a child to go back to learning by rote—it has to be something far more involving than that.[...]

Was the anti-Guma story at the Chabad link planted by Tropper? A reader in the comments section says he was in Belz and did not see Guma getting the cold shoulder from anyone. It's also suspicious that the article mentions "Harav Tropper" as if everyone in Eretz Yisroel should automatically know who he is. Sounds like more self-aggrandizement coming from the EJF script book.

  2. Sorry had the link to the wrong web site. The item from Chareidim is for a later post.

  3. There are Litvishe yeshivos that hire only chassidishe rebbeim for elementary grades. A hanhala member admitted to me that they found from experience that chassidishe rebbeim impart a special varmkeit into young boys that comes from the chassidishe mehalech.

And then you have chassidishe bochurim of beis medrash age that only want a Litvishe derech halimud. They have overrun yeshivos like Beis Hatalmud and Stamford as the rov. Yeshivos like Lakewood and Mir have imposed quotas so that they remain the miut.
