ReplyDeleteThe Jewish father comes over and keeps most of the traditions. The son grows up in secular Western culture and dumps it all to be a typical American.
The Muslim father comes over and tries to be secular because he wants to escape the meshugas "back home" that constantly threatened him and his family. His son grows up and feels limited ties to White American culture and seeks it out in the local mosque which is controlled by Islamists who tell him to return to the faith and be intolerant of others.
Here's a simple observation. I don't recall hijabs 30 years ago. Muslim girls? Sure but no hijabs. Why? Because they're come to North America to escape that. Their daughters started wearing them because they were looking for an identity and Islamism promises this.
You skipped the Jewish Baal Teshuva movement in the 3rd and 4th generation. Typical negative Canadian outlook. Always judging Chareidim unfavorably
DeleteDid I mention Chareidim? I don't recall mentioning Chareidim. Unless you think that every religious Jew that immigrated here was automatically Chareidi because that's the only kind of religious Jew there is in which case yes.
DeleteAnd the Baal Teshuva movement has pretty much flamed out. They still get some numbers but those are dwarfed by the OTD's going the other way.
