Tosefta?

Am learning Shabbos which cites a Tosefta reguarding domains of Shabbos. What is Tosefta and why isn't  it in the Mishna?

  1. In oral law, one can talk about multiple authors and edits. Without being an apikorus.

  2. A baraita and the Tosefta are both extra-canonical teachings of the Oral Law from the Tannaitic period that were excluded from the official Mishnah compiled by Rabbi Judah ha-Nasi. A baraita is a general term for any external teaching, while the Tosefta is a specific, single edited book containing these supplementary laws.

    1. Are they extra canonical? Or have they become absorbed into the oral law canon?

    1. Sometimes it's good to ask basic questions and think more like a beginner than an expert.
