Charting how Trump became a historically unpopular president

 https://edition.cnn.com/2026/05/05/politics/trump-approval-rating-analysis-vis

Trump came into office with his best approval ratings ever, with some polls showing him above 50% in late January 2025. But he had an extremely short honeymoon, quickly shedding several points.

It’s difficult to pin down exactly what caused the quick decline. Trump’s first days back in office were a flurry of unilateral actions. Two likely culprits were his highly unpopular pardons of virtually all January 6 defendants, even those who assaulted police, and the haphazard Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cuts to government employees and services led by the highly unpopular Elon Musk.

    1) Because Trump has a freedom that no president in living memory has had. He doesn't have to stand for re-election and he doesn't care what happened to the GOP when he stands down in 2028.
Second term presidents usually have stuff left on their agenda and a successor to keep things going, like Reagan with Bush or Clinton with Gore. Trump doesn't so he can do what he likes without worry about the next election.
    2) Because Trump is the subject of media hate on a minute by minute basis. The only thing in the world more slandered by the media and made to look evil is Israel but Trump is a close second. The media constantly shouts at people that he's terrible, that the economy is terrible (actually it's one of the best in the world), that unemployment is terrible (actually it's one of the best in the world), that America is losing to Iran (actually it's smacked Iran into the dust) and that there's no more corrupt country on Earth (actually there's plenty), all while claiming that press freedom in America is being cut down (although if it was, why wouldn't anti-Trump news be the first to be banned instead of saturating the airwaves?)
Well there you go. I've given you a list and I know that DT will now spend the rest of the day feverishly looking for false and fake headlines that claim to disprove everything I've said. I'll sit back now and enjoy my morning coffee.

      Well you're right.
