Historically the state of Israel was founded because there seemed no other defense against Anti-Semitism. This was primarily secular activists with the vast majority of Orthodox views against it. However we see in our times that Israel is the main justification for anti-semitism or hatred of the Jews. It seems rather ironic that the drafting of the Orthodox is viewed as a critical element in preserving the secular state which clearly has failed to validate the vision of the founders. Should the government simply declare defeat and walk away?
What a joke of an article. It's jumbling up reality.
ReplyDeleteZionism was a response to statelessness and the problems of persecution in galus. It has given benefits to all Jews especially those who live there , and have freedom to do as they want - be it science, business or learning in yeshiva.
The orthodox were against the state before, but now benefit from the government, grants, and living in Eretz Yisrael.
If hareidim were really opposed to it, they would leave the Knesset and refuse benefits the way brisk do.
Idiot article. It's like the Satmar's addled "The Zionists are causing Jew hatred!" Really. Chielmnicki was upset about Zionism. The Crusaders were upset about Zionism. Ukrainian nationalists post WW1 were upset about Zionism.
ReplyDeleteIdiocy. They will hate the Jews. All that changes is the excuse. But because the Chareidi leadership also hates the rest of the Jewish nation, they latch onto the excuse and justify themselves with it.
