The botched Gaetz nomination, together with the other pushback, show that while GOP lawmakers generally agree with the president-elect’s ambition to reshape the federal bureaucracy, they are at times willing to buck their party’s standard-bearer.
First, this is why many poltical leaders don't admit they've made a mistake. Becauser people like DT won't say "Oh, well at least he admits it and will try better next time" but instead shout "You see! He admits he was wrong! And he's wrong about everything!" Second, you can't have it both ways. You can't complain that the Republican Party is terrible because Trump completely controls it and then mock and the Republican Party proves you wrong.
