But is there a crime wave in America? Without a doubt, people believe that crime continues to surge. A Gallup poll found that 78% of Americans believe that there was more crime in 2022 than in 2021. (Only 13% believed it declined.)
Again, shoplifting is down in San Francisco because the police won't do anything about it so no charges are laid.
ReplyDeleteAny American will tell you there's lots more crime and then they will tell you the police don't do anything about it.
Nothing new. When I was in undergrad, my car was broken into. I called the police to report it and was told not to bother and that a report wouldn't be filed because they wouldn't do anything about it since there was no chance they'd ever find the criminal. The break-in didn't get reported and therefore when the number of car vandalisms was tallied at the end of the year, mine wasn't include.
It really is that simple. If the police don't lay charges, no crime has been committed.
