Override Clause approved in first reading in Knesset

Proposal approved by a majority of 61 to 52. The bill stipulates that laws struck down by the Supreme Court can be re-enacted by the Knesset with a majority of 61 MKs.

  1. Bibi is being clever. Two of his three suggestions are good - giving the Knesset control over appointing judges and eliminating the omnipotence the "reasonable" clause gives them. He put them together and kept this separate. It's my hope that he'll put the opposition in the position of saying "Okay, you can have those two but drop the override clause!"
