CONSERVATIVE, WITH RESERVATIONS

 https://mishpacha.com/conservative-with-reservations/

I’m referring to an embarrassing byproduct of the Orthodox world’s increasing identification with the Republican Party: the phenomenon of Torah Jews spouting conservative talking points seemingly heedless of the fact that our own mekoros might have something different to say on the matter.

  1. Why is it embarrassing?
What's wrong with being either conservative or Republican?

  2. Because Torah Judaism isn't simplistic.
Take abortion. The Democrat position is "Any woman, any time!" The Republic position is "No woman, no time!" And the halakha says "Some women, sometimes." So a strict allegiance to either side goes against that nuance.
Look at their extremists. Now, you can criticize Orthodox Jews who hang out with Democrats for their supporting of people whose lifestyles the Torah condemns but if you hang out with Republicans you have to explain why you're okay being in the same camp as neo-Nazis.
