Filmmaker Boruch Perlowitz Fights Back: “I’m a Victim of Hasidic Yeshiva Education”

  1. Biased sample. For every successful blogger out there who's made good money from the ads on his site, there's 100's that appeared and disappeared without a trace (I should know!). So yeah, you could find a successful blogger and have him make a video on how he didn't need high school to become rich and influential but that's the exception, not the rule.
We all know of Holocaust survivors who, after the war and without any high school diplomas, became rich and influential. You know the story, right? The guy who, after The War, winds up in New York and wants to get a job as a shammes at a shul but is illiterate so he can't sign the contract so they won't hire him. He goes on to dabble in real estate, becomes really wealthy. One day a guy notes that he signs his cheques with "X". "You're illiterate? Imagine what would've happened if you'd know how to read!" And the guy says "Yeah, I'd be the shammes at the shul down the street." The exceptions and not the rule.
Same thing with this guy. Yeah, he's got a natural speaking talent, he's ambitious and he trained himself on how to use the internet to his advantage to get ahead. Good for him and much hatzlacha. He's the exception, not the rule. For every one of him, there's thousand living in ignorance and poverty. One could easily argue that he succeeded despite his lack of education because the internet has been the great opener of opportunity.

  2. Boruch Perlowitz is a game show host, and a movie producer, who has produced three feature films.

May there be many such "victims" for all eternity.

  3. Again, it worked out for him. He has intelligence, talent and the cunning to use the new technology to bypass a lack of basic education. The next 99 guys next to him didn't and now live in poverty with no hope for a better future for them or their kids. But when they make videos about them we're told "Oh, just a bunch of whingers!"

  4. You missed the part about all the people he works for, and presents to, who may be making more money than you'll ever make in your life, despite not having the same education that you yourself received.

I know some of these people, and they are millionaires many times over, and you can only dream to live the way they do.

In any event, I don't have a horse in this race, as I received a stellar Yeshiva education, in New York city, which thank G-d, adequately prepared me for success in life.

Anybody interested in bettering their financial lot, can start today, and there many organizations waiting on the sidelines to help them. If they don't want to help themselves, then that's their problem.

  5. So are you saying that majority of yeshiva graduates become wealthy and mega rich?
Or just cherry picking the few who are rich and generalising?

  6. And one of my original points is that a strong secular education isn't always a ticket to success. We all know the stories of holocaust survivors who didn't have high school educations and were barely literate in English but who had natural business savvy and became multi-millionaires. Sure, it happens but it's biased reporting. For every guy who had special intelligence and didn't need a proper education, there's 99 guys living in misery because they didn't and they did.
