  1. There's no reason one cannot work and be strictly observant. The conflict between the two is artificial. His final point is the most important - we want to succeed for all our benefits.

  2. well, perhaps being strictly observant by today's standards means you need to spend 8 hours learning, 2 hours davening. Plus the workplace needs a mechitza, glatt kosher everything, even the water dispenser and air conditioning. So if you find time to work, great.
