  1. There are three types of depression
    1) People have crappy lives, they get depressed - they have crappy lives
    2) People have great lives, they get depressed - they don't have enough serotonin
    3) People have both problems.

  3. One examines a person and their circumstances. If a woman who lives in a very poor neighbourhood come to see me and it turns out she's in an abusive relationship with her boyfriend, she is about to be evicted, and her teenager son is the local crack dealer and then she tells me she's overwhelmed and depressed and can't handle things, well a pill isn't likely to change that, is it?

  4. Someone can have an outwardly good life and be depressed. Or have other psychological problems, but depression is the low hanging fruit.
