Rav Moshe Feinstein[7] zt"l was asked near the end of his life about prohibiting a certain type of fruit due to a possible insect issue. Rav Moshe responded that it may not be publicized that this fruit is prohibited; as aside for the fact that there were lenient opinions to rely upon (in that specific situation), "it is prohibited to spread rumors about earlier generations, who could not have possibly been stringent on these issues, as they were unaware of them".
It's like all the those fluorescent bug checking lights. It implies our grandparents ate bugs.
ReplyDeleteThe Chofetz Chaim 's daughter had his kiddish cup. When her and her husband moved to Israel , yeshiva bochrim wanted the opportunity to say kiddush from the Holy CC's cup, and some had the arrogance to tell her the cup was too small to make the brocho on.

how? You are leaving out all the relevant facts?!
ReplyDeleteIf our grandparents ate bugs, due to their lack of knowledge, does that mean that we should therefore ignore the knowledge we have today, even while knowing that ignoring that knowledge will us lead to eat bugs?
