Wow we saw that God spoke to us from the heavens, saying the Ten Commandments: “God spoke all these words, saying: I am Hashem your God, Who took you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves.” (Exodus 20:1-2).
On Shabbath Rosh Chodesh we say:
אתה יצרת עולמך מקדם כלית מלאכתך ביום השביעי. אהבת אותנו ורצית בנו ורוממתנו מכל הלשונות וקדשתנו במצותיך. וקרבתנו מלכנו לעבודתך ושמך הגדול והקדוש עלינו קראת:
ותתן לנו יהוה אלהינו באהבה שבתות למנוחה וראשי חדשים לכפרה. ולפי שחטאנו לפניך אנחנו ואבותינו. חרבה עירנו ושמם בית מקדשנו. וגלה יקרנו ונטל כבוד מבית חיינו. ואין אנחנו יכולים לעשות חובותינו בבית בחירתך בבית הגדול והקדוש שנקרא שמך עליו. מפני היד שנשתלחה במקדשך:
יהי רצון מלפניך יהוה אלהינו ואלהי אבותינו. שתעלנו בשמחה לארצנו ותטענו בגבולנו. ושם נעשה לפניך את קרבנות חובותינו תמידים כסדרם ומוספים כהלכתם. ואת מוספי יום השבת הזה ויום ראש החדש הזה. נעשה ונקריב לפניך באהבה כמצות רצונך. כמו שכתבת עלינו בתורתך על ידי משה עבדך מפי כבודך כאמור:
So, today, without the Beit Hamikdash, we do prayer and Rabbinical decrees in place of Torah obligations.
“So, too, any וכל gift תרומה among the sacred donations לכל קדשי that the Israelites offer אשר יקריבו shall be the priest’s לו יהיה. And each ואיש shall retain his sacred donations את קדשיו לו יהיה: each איש אשר יתן לכהן priest shall keep what is given to him לו יהיה.” (Numbers 5:9-10)

דבר אחר ואיש את קדשיו לו יהיו. אמר חזקיה בריה דר' פרנך אמר ר' פרנך אמר ר' יוחנן כל שיש לו תרומה ומעשר ואין נותנין לכהן לסוף בא לידי כהן, שנאמר והביא האיש את אשתו אל הכהן (במדבר ה, טו), ולא עוד אלא שנצרך לו שנאמר ואיש את קדשיו לו יהיו. אמר רבא ואם נותנן לכהן זוכה לממון הרבה, שנאמר איש אשר יתן לכהן לו יהיה. לו יהיה ממון הרבה.
My theory. Any וכל gift תרומה among the sacred donations לכל קדשי that the Israelites offer אשר יקריבו...we do sacrifices to God. The Kohen has the job of maintaining the Beit Hamikdash according to the Torah of Moses. A misreading looks like we do sacrifices to the Kohen. No.
רש"י במדבר פרשת נשא פרק ה פסוק ט
וכל תרומה וגו' - אמר רבי ישמעאל וכי תרומה מקריבין לכהן, והלא הוא המחזר אחריה לבית הגרנות. ומה תלמוד לומר אשר יקריבו לכהן, אלו הבכורים, שנאמר בהם תביא בית ה' אלהיך, (שמות כג, יט). ואיני יודע מה יעשה בהם, תלמוד לומר לכהן לו יהיה, בא הכתוב ולמד על הבכורים שיהיו ניתנין לכהן:
And each ואיש shall retain his sacred donations את קדשיו לו יהיה: when a person goes to heaven what does he bring with him? את קדשיו his holies, his sacred donations, his good deeds, his Torah study. We say every morning:
the study of the Torah surpasses them all

“R. Judah b. Shila said in R. Assi's name in R. Johanan's name: There are six things, the fruit of which man eats in this world, while the principal remains for him for the world to come, viz.: Hospitality to wayfarers, visiting the sick, meditation in prayer, early attendance at the Beth Hamidrash, rearing one's sons to the study of the Torah, and judging one's neighbor in the scale of merit.
