Bar Kokhba Revolt

Ben Kozba further proclaimed himself as the Messiah, and had the backing of theBen Kozba proclaimed himself the messiah greatest sage of his time, Rabbi Akiva, along with many other sages.
However, other sages felt strongly that Bar Kokhba was not the Messiah, and two incidents vindicated them. First, before one of his battles, Bar Kokhba blasphemously proclaimed: "G‑d, if you choose not to help us, at least do not come to the aid of our enemies," thereby implying that the Jews could be victorious without Divine assistance. On another occasion, Bar Kokhba suspected that his saintly uncle, Rabbi Elazar HaModai, knew military secrets. Enraged, Bar Kokhba confronted the elderly Rabbi Elazar, kicking him and causing his death. Their hopes dashed, the Jews then called Bar Kokhba "Bar Koziba," meaning son of a lie. All told, Bar Kokhba ruled in Jerusalem for two and a half years, with minted coins commemorating his rule.

  1. Lubavitch is biased. They have to downplay that Bar Kochba was possibly Moshiach because they want everyone to know that the Rebbe was, is and always will be!

They also were pushing the status of bchizkat moshiach, which is how it started when he was still alive. If bar kochba can be it, so can the Rebbe

  3. The Rambam is extremely clear. Once he's dead, then the issue of "chezkas moshiach" vs. "moshiach vadai" becomes moot; because he surely isn’t the redeemer promised by the Torah.

It’s interesting, that those who constantly invoke the Rambam, when they think that it suits them, conveniently ignore Rambam’s words when they contradict their ideology.

their way of out that was that b. Kochba was "killed", but their guy was not killed, he died of natural causes, and can come from the dead or the living.

to be fair, when he was alive, he was widely accepted as a gadol and tzaddik, maybe not by everyone, but by a large majority. then again, Rav Aharon already saw problems with them/ even the previous rebbe.

  6. You know what really upsets them? According to Rambam, Moshiach must do three things
    1) fight the wars of Israel
    2) gather in the exiles
    3) build the Third Temple
Ben Gurion, a"h, was 2/3. The Rebbe was 0/3. They hate it when you point that out.

and rav Goren being the rav of the Army, making it's kitchens kosher, liberating Jerusalem, blowing shofar etc. Didn't the 6 day war spark the modern teshuva trend?

  12. Why can't your haredi clique ever acknowledge that good things, even miracles can come from outside your Dalet amot? Perhaps for the same reason it's hard to accept that pure evil can also occur within your world.
